Industry feedback on performing as a singer is provided to the Late-Teen singers.

Performing as a Singer: Industry feedback and advice on performing as a singer has been provided for the Late-Teen singers from TeenStar’s London and East England Area Final. Acts performed to industry judges and a capacity crowd for the opportunity to make it to the national TeenStar Grand Final.

 Performing as a Singer – Late-Teen Feedback

The judges providing feedback on performing as a singer included:

  • Andy Baker from Rocket Fuel.
  • Songwriter and producer Jonny Amos.
  • Bobby Mitchell from Talen Talks.
  • Carelle Mowatt from Pop Sccop and ex MTV presenter.
  • Chimene Mohammed who previously worked for Island Records and Warner Music.
  • Laurence Hobbs from Charthouse Music.
  • Chris Grayston, Head of Future Music.

The London and East England Area Final was rounded off by guest act Richi Jones.

Performing as a Singer: See industry feedback below. Please be aware views expressed by judges are opinions and subjective to that particular judging panel. These views in no way reflect the views of the TeenStar competition, and are published with a view to being beneficial to the performing acts.

Late-Teen Feedback on Performing as a Singer

Pearl Fish – You have a beautiful voice with a sweet melodic tone, but watch your breath control at times. You could give more eye contact to connect more to the audience and perhaps more expression. However it was a great original song, with beautiful lyrics and story. Loved the song!

Amber Silver – You had a good voice and variation of tones but the performance was not committed to or focused with any purpose. Performing more will help develop your stage experience and craft.

Hannah Hay – It’s a big song which you really needed to commit to. The chorus can potentially be big and you shy’d away from it. You have a likable and pleasant voice.

Sophia Alexa – Great song choice and arrangement, liked that you made the cover your own. You could improve your projection by getting closer to that mic. You have a beautiful tone and it was a great individual interpretation, well done.

Malik Deacon – You are losing a lot of projection by having the mic a long way from your mouth, as you need to get this consistent. Performance is your strength and your vocals are your weaker side, so work with a good vocal to develop your weaknesses into strengths. A good fun performance though.

Chiara – Nice original version of the song, liked that you tried to make the cover your own. Good committed performance but it felt a bit over the top, keep it believable and natural.

Samson & The Lion – You have a great voice, but you sounded a lot like the original artist, you need to try and show off your own voice.  Liked that you broke down the song and made it your own though. It did feel a little hurried in places rather than comfortable and under control, so relax and enjoy the performance. A very sincere performance, you gave us goosebumps.

Performing as a Singer Feedback

Melissa Martinez – Interesting song choice, which could have been even cooler if you tried to swing it more. You need to have more movement with your body and head as your hair means you cut off eye contact and connection to quite a large amount of the audience. Try and feel the song more and enhance the performance to have a bigger stage presence.

Arion – A very slick performance with strong stage presence. Eye-catching image which is great. The performers could have been more together in terms of connecting on stage and image but that’s a picky point amongst a very professional performance, well done!

Abi Hudson – Great expression and connection to the song. Wonderful vocal control and a beautiful voice. You have a strong look and were pitch perfect. A brilliant performance, well done!

Courtney Wilson – Super vocal and you have a lovely soulful tone, a bit of tweaking on the dynamics could have made it even better. Be sure to finish you phrasing. Great image. Would love to hear an one of his own songs.

Michael Hart – The song is decent but a bit repetitive lyrically although the backing is great. Watch your mic control as it’s causing you to be inconsistent with your vocal levels. Loved the energetic performance. Lots of potential here so keep working hard.

Georgia – Great image and powerful voice, a very memorable artist however performing with musical keyboards as it’s a different discipline, but as with all good actors you need to portray the story in your eyes and expression. You need to give the audience more eye contact and look down less at the keys.

Daynah Lorelle – An extremely clever song choice, with a great arrangement. An incredible well written song originally sung by an average singer allowed you to make this cover a sensitive and emotional success. Strong vocal dynamics and a great delivery.

Feedback on Performing as a Singer

Eleanor – Nice voice, with a lovely tone. It’s a nice to see you performing an original song. The song does have potential but it needs a stronger lyrical hook to make it even better. Try developing your stage presence and perform more on stage, click here for stage performance tips.

Hannah Hall – Really impressive that you managed to sing with tonsillitis. Good stage presence, but look to develop more expression in your face to convey the emotion in the message of the song. You have the potential vocally just need to develop the performance and expression.

ELI – A very original act. Loved the outfit and image! The different guitar playing style works as a novel gimmick but would advise using sparingly as in the end it seemed to stop the flow. Good song choice, but better worked dynamics would have made it even better!

Alexandria Dewsall – Powerful and dynamic voice. You are strong vocally but it felt like it needed something different with the performance. Certainly look to work that stage more.

Pia Harmony – Loved the vocals and a good connection to the song as you’d expect as you’ve written it from the heart. Love your hair, your name and your guitar it all makes you really stand out as an original artist. Try and show us a softer tone at times, add more light and shade to the dynamics. A great original song with a lovely sentiment.

Megan Earl – Lovely outfit and pretty vocals however you need to think outside the box to stand out more. We’ve heard a lot of creative covers and original songs and therefore this stood out in that it didn’t try to be anything different. You have a lovely vocal.

Seda Mertdjan – Liked the changing tones in your vocal it gave it character and richness but take care not to over use it. Also watch your expression as you are often coming across too harsh and not on point with the message in the song. Great vocal control though!

We! Are – Confident use of the stage and excellent stage presence. The female vocal is fantastic and loved the rap. However going off stage isn’t always the best idea as all the lighting to light you up is on the stage. A very entertaining performance nonetheless.

Pre-Teen feedback was provided for singers at the Bristol Talent Competition

Bristol Talent Competition: The Regional Final for the Bristol talent competition at The Anson Rooms in Bristol saw the best pre-teen singers in the area come to perform at a live showcase.

Bristol Talent Competition – Pre-Teen Feedback

The Bristol talent competition judging panel included:

The Bristol talent competition was rounded off with a special guest performance Open Mic UK’s 2014 winner, Richi Jones.

Bristol Talent Competition: See industry feedback below. Please be aware views expressed by judges are opinions and subjective to that particular judging panel. These views in no way reflect the views of the TeenStar competition, and are published with a view to being beneficial to the performing acts.

Amy Wilson-Young – Lovely tone but you are a long way from the mic and this altered your vocal projection. Also watch your timing as you were a bit eager at times. Glad you took the mic off the stand and used the stage. A big song choosing Whitney and came across slightly nervous. A very nice look/image.

Bristol Talent Competition – Industry Judges Feedback

Eva McKenzie – Mic control let you down. This meant the levels were very inconsistent. A great guitar technique! A few minor issues with the vocals, but nothing a good vocal coach can’t help you with.

Celyn – Great to see you take the mic off the stand for a very committed performance.  Always keep going even if you forget the words! Otherwise you just highlight the mistake and we wouldn’t have noticed. Just take care not to get too shouty and keep vocal control. A strong vocal with extra coaching you could be very good.

Daisy Mae – Good projection and vocal control. Your guitar work was solid, but keeps practising to refine it even more. You’ve got a lovely voice! Good song, it just needed a little more structure.

Paige Mullin – Performing a character does mean we don’t see you being original. Watch your mic control as that would have meant better projection. Lovely vocals and going forward you need to add more emotion and expression. You are a star in the making, so keep going within the musical theatre world.

Bristol Talent Competition – TeenStar Feedback

Oakley Orchard – It’s a song that is performed a lot but it was nice to see a boy tackle it for a change. Very risky performing a song more commonly known for females but it paid off. Liked the expression you gave the track, don’t be frightened to commit even more to the performance. You seemed at home on the stage and it came across well.

Annalise – Potential is there but need to consider song choice. Control is so important to a performance, whether it be microphone control or breath control. It’s a dance number so you need to give the movement the track dictates. If you forget the words always continue with the performance, otherwise you just highlight the error.

Hannah – Nice tone to your vocals, consider adding more vocal dynamics to the performance. Going forward commit more to the emotion within the song. Great stage presence, so well done. Make sure there’s a synergy between the song and your image!

Carmen Marie – Good song choice, modern and current. Performance wise, you used the stage well but give the performance more purpose. Performance could also develop if you worked on facial expression to convey the emotion in the song. Giving your breathing more attention would help your performance.

Feedback for singers who performed at the Milton Keynes auditions.

Milton Keynes Auditions Feedback

Lauren Rogers – You had a nice vocal tone and range with good control and delivery. Now look to use your hands more expressively during your performance and be careful to watch your breathing at the end of phrases.

Singing Sweeties – You were very sweet and had some nice harmonies. Now look to interact with each other more and potentially look to get a vocal coach who will be able to assist you further.

Feedback for the Milton Keynes Auditions

Holly Ditum – You have a nice tone to your voice but make sure to relax so you can feel the song and enjoy it. A vocal coach will be able to further assist you with your breathing.

Lashaya Byfield – This was a very confident audition, with strong projection and good control. You had very strong vocals with nice tone contrasts. Going forwards, take care not to overpower the words and to ensure you sustain your breathing until the end of phrases.

Lydia – You had a confident start and have a good vocal with great thrills and tricks, just try to hold back on them. Going forwards, watch your diction and try to make more eye contact with your audience. Also ensure you support your breathing all through the phrases.

TeenStar’s Essex talent show auditions saw singers perform to impress music industry judges in Essex.

Essex Talent Show: TeenStar’s Essex talent show came to Chelmsford, Essex this weekend to see acts try to impress TeenStar’s music industry judges in a bid to make the Regional live shows. A panel of industry experts judged the acts and have compiled feedback for the priority auditionees.

Feedback for the Pre-Teens at the Essex Talent Show

Essex Talent Show: See industry feedback below. Please be aware views expressed by judges are opinions and subjective to that particular judging panel. These views in no way reflect the views of TeenStar, and are published with a view to being beneficial to the performing acts.

Chantelle Kwenda: You have a mature tone and good delivery. Make sure to use eye contact to connect with your audience.

Ellie Grace: Be careful with your diction and eye contact. You have a powerful voice with good use of dynamics. Your image also worked well for your age. You have clear tone but you need to improve diction so we can hear the words too.

Anabelle Hards: Nice vocal control and on a pitch in a difficult song to sing – well done! You did well with a broken arm too! Looking at the judges when performing would be beneficial.

Abby Murphy: Your image really worked for your age and you had good eye contact throughout with the judges. Also you showed a connection with song and emotion whilst singing. You showed off a lovely delicate voice when hitting the high notes.

Reece Emery: Great to see such songwriting potential at this age. A catchy original delivered confidently. Don’t forget to perform visually using your arms and hands. A very catchy and bouncy song!

Sarinna Proudfoot-Mathurin: You have good eye contact and a good smile! It was nice to see you dressing to impress too. You really made the judges smile with your own enjoyment of the song. Be careful with some parts of the song, don’t rush.

Gabrielle Bridle: Clear diction and a confident audition- well done! However try not to rush through the song as it can show nerves.

Mid-Teen Talent Show Feedback

Emily Child: Your image worked well for the audition with a mature performance. You have an engaging energy and expression whilst performing, good audition! Your voice suited your vocals too.

Macey Broom: Some good eye contact but you can also have more. Overall, you have a confident vocal and on pitch throughout.

Thomas Newman Clark: You have a nice deep tone with good control. Really nice to see you dressed for the song choice but perhaps a contemporary approach may have worked a little better. Also try to look at the judges more. Good audition!

Felicity Ison: Really good eye contact with the judges and your image worked for your age. It was possibly the wrong song choice for you, try something more modern.

Uncertified: You had some really nice harmonies so try to add more and play to this strength. Having a bit more eye contact and more a performance would be beneficial.

Jorgyella Thorpe: A good original and well sung- well done! Try engaging with the judges and audience more when singing would be beneficial.

Katy Forkings: You have great confidence and a nice smile – sometimes you know someone’s going to be good as soon as they walk through the door! Overall nice tone and your image worked for your song and age. Try working no your eye contact.

Hollie Heard: Your image worked for the audition but try to have more eye contact when singing. Be more aware of your arms and body movements when singing. Nice sweet tone to your voice.

Olivia Hurdle: You have a great vocal and good confidence. You maintained eye contact and overall a great audition. Also your image really worked for you!

Essex Talent Show Feedback for the Late-Teens

Emily Carter: You have a nice image but need more eye contact when signing. You performed a good overall audition but be careful with diction.

Shayla Reid: The image worked for audition but try to take it to the next level. You have nice of hand and arms but a different song could showcase your voice better.

Daynah Lorelle: Nice control and tone which you sung with control. You were original and memorable! However concentrate on your connection with audience.

Elise Keeling: Your image worked well for the audition. Nice and natural amplification and a clear tone. Comfortable to watch but could improve at keeping us engaged by using dynamics. Great that you performed your own song!

Hayley Blatcher: Nice song choice with lots of confidence and good eye contact throughout. Try to connect more to the song to show real emotion.

Pia Harmony: You are very unique – great pink hair! It is important though if you pick a new song to sing you know how it goes. Great eye contact throughout – great audition!

Hannah Hall: Your image worked well. Try to have more confidence as you have a great voice!

Suzanna Rooney: Good audition and eye contact but more needed. Try to watch the expressions on your face, record yourself and look back over it to help.

Finlay Frost: Your image really stood out. Try to use more eye contact and be careful with your facial expressions. You performed visually with your arms and hands – well done!

Manchester Talent Competition: Industry judges have provided feedback to the Mid-Teen acts who took part in the Manchester talent competition at the TeenStar North West England and Scotland Area Final this weekend. The Manchester talent competition gave acts the chance to impress industry judges and a capacity crowd for the opportunity to make it to the national TeenStar Grand Final.

Manchester Talent Competition – Mid-Teen Feedback

The Manchester talent competition judges included:

  • Asher Halle from Green Pepper Junction Records and the Brit Awards.
  • Music Manager Edward Smith.
  • Peter Ross from Astar Studios.
  • Stacey Coleman from Casby Studios.
  • Jill Bowyer from Salford City Radio.
  • Chris Grayston, Head of Future Music.

The Manchester talent competition was rounded off with a special guest performance from Jack Walton who took part in The X Factor last year.

Manchester Talent Competition: See industry feedback below. Please be aware views expressed by judges are opinions and subjective to that particular judging panel. These views in no way reflect the views of the TeenStar competition, and are published with a view to being beneficial to the performing acts.

Manchester Talent Competition Feedback

Betty – Song choice is everything and so choosing to sing such a big song is difficult to impress with. Having said that you gave it a good go, which was great, however it is a mountain of a song to control and sometimes it’s not all about trying to show your voice off. Work on your mic control to keep the volume consistent throughout your performance too.

Balram Rathour – Good song choice, just take care with your diction as it is not always as clear what you are singing. Also look to develop the dynamics to give more depth to the performance. Work on your breathing more to get even better projection.

Harriet Alexander – Lovely vocal but it needed far more performance, try using the whole stage for example not just a small section. Fantastic image and vocally well delivered just try not to push it too hard and loose the control.

The Outskirts – Well worked harmonies, they very impressive! Don’t forget to smile and express the emotion of the song appropriately. Also look to reach out to each other to show a connection between you on stage. A good arrangement though so well done!

Harriet Boardman-White – You had a good stage presence which showed an air of professionalism, which was brilliant to see. Lovely vocal control in particular hanging on the note. Remember to perform right until the end of your performance as you missed the opportunity with the instrumental at the end.

Ashleigh Burns – Lots of potential with the song and you connected well with it. It just needs a catchy vocal hook to go to the next level. Great image and overall a very well delivered performance, well done.

Lewis Maxwell – You have good diction and the song has potential but it could be catchier to stick in people’s heads as this is so important to have that hit potential. Performance wise you have good movement and expression. Great vocals and a very well delivered performance.

Mid-Teen Manchester Talent Competition Feedback

Miles – Brave song choice as it is an iconic song which we hear a lot of. Remember to perform throughout the performance and even more in the instrumental sections. Work on your mic control as getting that mic near your mouth will assist in giving you more projection across to the audience.

Katie Clark – Nice performance, but try to really commit yourself to the performance more. Consider taking the mic off the stand earlier and working the stage as you were very static prior to that point. Vocally just take care to watch you control. Great image and your styling was lovely.

Lara Hickson – The ukulele can be a useful tool as a backing instrument, but it can also be a little thin as a backing instrument so know when to use it, generally it is best for slow tempo performances. Performance wise you need to give more eye contact to your audience as this helps us the audience to connect to you as a performer.

Kathryn McLaren – You have a lovely vocal but you need to bring more performance. As it’s a fluffy, light song look to express that in the performance. Good song choice but the nerves gave a few pitching issues at times. More performance will help you develop your confidence on stage.

Abi Grace – Great to hear you perform your own song, keep writing songs as you clearly have a passion for it. The key to a hit song is the hook and chorus.

Casi Mai – You have super vocals but it’s not always necessary to punch out the majority of lines, let it breathe through the verses and then the chorus will have even more impact when you punch it through. Also look to vary the projection and tone throughout your performance.

Nicole – Super vocals but don’t forget to perform too and use that stage. Use your eyes and face to express the different emotions in the song as it’s not a song all about pain.

Abbie Robinson-O’Neill – Even though you have a powerful vocal don’t be frightened to really close to that mic as you are losing projection at times. Make sure the work on the keys doesn’t stop the flow of the song.

Feedback for the Manchester Talent Competition

Alana Hanley – Cracking song choice you sung it wonderfully, however as a dance number it needs more movement and energy on stage. Nice image but look to work on developing your vocals as there were pitching issues at times.

Rachelle & Brittany – Make use of the “scream out or shout out” line more as the song has good structure and emotion. It probably needs to repeat one of those lines rather than lyrically changing quite so much to make it more catchy. As performers try reach out and connect with each other more on stage.

Jenna Darrell – You are committing well to the performance but it’s coming across too desperate emotionally sometimes, so look to rein that in a bit. Also think about your image in terms of making an impression.

Tabitha Jade – A much better guitar sound. Backing harmonies could be stronger and the keys aren’t adding an awful lot so perhaps consider changing their involvement. Vocally you change your delivery well to keep the interest going. The chorus doesn’t need to continue so much at the end so look to cut it down and perform an edited version; less is more sometimes.

Lucy Moore – You moved and worked the stage well with super vocal control. Nice scats to give it your own touch. Work on your breathing though as this can help you immensely going forward.

Jade Edwards – Great job from the dancers to give a fantastic visual backdrop although please ensure you don’t get too close to the lighting and projectors for your own safety. Vocally just take care with your breathing so as not to lose your control. A really enjoyable performance.

Amelia Benoit  – Nice classical version of a pop song, which was great to see. Vocally you had such presence and control. Lovely image, you looked great on stage, well done!

Harry Davidson – As a male acoustic it is probably best to steer very clear of Ed Sheeran otherwise risk of being dubbed an impressionist instead of as individual artist. Slow down and look to find your own song not someone else’s.

Effi Nicki – Nice song choice and a very confident performance with lovely vocal control. Well projected with good tone. A lovely overall performance.

Livvy K – Great song choice and vocal control. Work on your breathing technique a bit more to make your vocals and projection even better. You engaged with the audience with lots of eye contact and interaction so well done for that. A great act to finish the show.

Industry judges provide feedback for the TeenStar Southampton dance competition.

Southampton Dance Competition: Industry judges have provided feedback for the acts competing in the TeenStar Southampton dance competition. The industry judges have provided singing and dance feedback on how acts can be successful in developing their performances.

Southampton Dance Competition – Feedback

The judges providing feedback at the Southampton dance competition were:

  • Roisin Mullins – Jacobs Leading Irish Dancer & Choreographer
  • Ros Fountain – Talent Scout and Event Organiser
  • Hayley Ostler – Pro singer/dancer and runs a Theatre School
  • Ryan Bishop – Cruise Director and previously supported Lemar
  • Chris Grayston – Head of Future Productions and Music Consultant for Sony, Thames TV and Syco Entertainment

Southampton Dance Competition: See industry feedback below. Please be aware views expressed by judges are opinions and subjective to that particular judging panel. These views in no way reflect the views of the TeenStar competition, and are published with a view to being beneficial to the performing acts.

Dance Competition Southampton Feedback – Pre-Teens

Madison Bailey – Great flexibility and expression. Obviously doing a lot of the routine on the floor can be obscured by the monitors so you need to consider in non-theatre venues. You showed us great facial expressions, they matched with the music. It was very elegant and controlled. You’re a great dancer!

Mitch – Super sweet tone and control. Always consider that you are performing as soon as you are on the stage so consider what you are portraying as that first impression. Watch your mic control as you were a long way from the microphone which will affect your projection. As a performance it was very static, consider using the stage more to bring more of a performance. Lots of potential, just need to work on the periphery matters to be even better!

Jaida-lou – Good projection! The bad technique is letting you down though, especially with your microphone control, you need to keep it consistently close to your mouth rather than waving it about. It would be great to see the emotion of the song through your facial expressions more too. Song choice was good and you have lots of vocal ability.

Laura Kate – Super vocal! Look to use that stage to be more engaging for your audience, and to back up the super vocal ability! Be careful of your pitching on the lower notes, vocal exercises would help strengthen your vocals and better the lower notes.

Street Dance – Good energy and expression! Your facial expressions were great – it was very engaging to watch. Loved that you got the audience interacting and involved for an overall enjoyable performance. Try to vary up your moves a little more to make the performance even better.

Grace Dickinson – You had smiley eyes which always makes a performance infectious. You used the dynamics of the song well. I would encourage you to focus on these dynamics as this can put you apart from other artists. You have a relaxed performance style, which works for you! Keep working hard.

Hannah Birtwell – We can see you have the potential but bad technique is letting you down – especially with your microphone control, you need to keep it consistently close to your mouth rather than waving it about. Facial expressions will improve the emotion that you need to portray.

Sophie Dundas – Super confident start to give a good first impression. In particular, in the instrumental sections, you need to perform more – which includes conveying emotion through your facial expressions. This will be more engaging for your audience. Keep your focus throughout and don’t force the song and risk losing control.

Rosie Hollins – Wow you really pack a punch for your age, bags of potential and one to watch. The more you perform the more you will develop your stagecraft, and expression. Try to include some softer vocals, as well as the big notes – this will vary the dynamics and better your performance.

Southampton Dance Competition Feedback

Tea Lowe – Great to hear you performing and having the confidence to perform your own original song, however it felt like it needed backing music to reach its full potential. You had great control of this song. To better your performance, try and use the stage more.

Jessica Phillips – Love the song, your confidence is really growing each time we see you! Look to keep working on that expression to really give us more emotional dynamics so the hope and optimism as well as the roar emotion. Enjoyed the story telling of the song, and the movement you showed on stage.

KRS of Dance – Bags of energy and you looked great in the silvery outfits! You had great style and we loved the choice of song. Try to get down lower on the stage to greater the dynamics of the movements. Also extend fully to finish all the moves. Keep working hard girls!

Natasha Cullen – Looking forward to seeing you starting to and having the confidence to perform your own songs. Vocally you have a bags of potential with a super unique mature rasp, just watch your microphone control. You have great confidence on stage. Be careful with your high notes, it seemed like you were pushing them too hard at times.

Becky – You picked a song choice that commands! You need to find your style of singing that compliments the song. Next time choose a different song that you can bring your own spin to as an artist, this would show us your originality.

Daisy Barter – You have lots of talent! Song choice is everything so picking such a big song was maybe a challenge, you will always be compared to the original. The key is picking a song you connect with which also suits the warmer tones in your vocal. Extremely difficult to impress with such a big popular song! Work on extending your vocal range to be even better.

Grace – Massive vocal! Need to back it up with a more purposeful performance, really commit to the emotion and the expression of the song. Also get that mic closer to your mouth to give us even more projection.

Double Trouble – Loved your costume and appreciate the amount of time that has gone into putting your performance together – just fantastic! Try to keep the fluidity on point – you need to perfect the transitions between moves. Get this right and you will have great potential.

Above the Beats – You looked like you were having super fun and that’s so infectious! Make sure you give each other the vocal space, which is perhaps in the preparation but at times it felt crowded. Look to individually work on diverse harmonies, there was a little but the performance needs more.

Harlie Curtis – Lots of talent but song choice is everything so picking such a big song was maybe a challenge for another day. The key is picking a song you connect with which also suits bringing out the warmer tones in your vocal. Extremely difficult to impress with such a big popular song! Work on extending your vocal range and watch your tuning to be even better.

Jules Gaudion – Loved your outfit! At just 9 you have so much ability – just watch your breathing as this can be distracting in your performance. It was a great song choice, you have a very relaxed stage presence, it works for you!

Twin Trouble – You looked like you were having super fun, bags of personality and that’s so infectious! Make sure you give each other the vocal space, which is perhaps in the preparation but at times it felt crowded. Look to individually work on diverse harmonies and watch your tuning.

Leah Jewel – Good connection to the song demonstrated which is great and connects us to the emotion in the song too. You told a story which is admiring, using your hand gestures showed your confidence also. Your vocal projection has improved so well done and keep working hard!

Mid-Teen Southampton Dance Competition Feedback

Katy Bates – You have an amazing vocal but you aren’t giving us a performance. You need to use your facial expressions to bring more to the performance. Also the ukulele can sound quite thin as an instrument so consider when and what songs it’s best used with. A more upbeat song could show us more range and dynamics.

Imogen – You sung a difficult song well but you need to give it more commitment and more purpose to the performance, use of the stage and portraying the emotion in the song will do this. You have a good confidence! Keep working hard.

Lizzy – Good song choice and connection to the song. Watch your microphone technique, be sure to bring the microphone to your lips to maximise projection. You look sad behind the eyes – you need to use your eyes to bring the song alive!

Yasmin Haynes – It was a very static performance and you must look to use the stage and bring the song alive. Vocally at times you lost the control so look to remain to keep focus throughout! Perhaps a vocal coach could help with getting the best out of your voice.

Bel – Strong and committed vocals. You have a comfortable presence looking up throughout to perform is a great example to anyone performing with the keyboards! You were pushing the bigger notes a little too hard at times, try to keep in control of these.

Paige Dobson – Such a mature vocal beyond your years. Watch your expression and use your face to convey the story and emotion in the song. Try to keep some sections lighter, varying up the dynamics will be more engaging for your audience.

Sarah – You have a nice tone but it felt a little flat. You need to bring the song alive so we can connect to the song and you as an artist. Try to keep eye contact with your audience, as this is more engaging for them. Bring us some more energy!

Amelia May – The idea was fantastic and the songs worked well together. Just needed to nit it together a little more, focus on your mic control to ensure the projection doesn’t slip at pivotal moments. Performance wise focus on directing to the audience you are on occasions to side on and performing to the wings.

Harriet Wintle – Ensure the microphone is set up as close to your mouth as possible also ensuring it doesn’t affect your posture as you sit also. The more you can perform the more your confidence will grow. The performance felt a little rushed at times just find your composure and let the song shine!

Amey – Need to start to believe in yourself! More performance will build confidence. You did very well despite feeling ill, good for you for coming along anyway! Try and keep the energy going throughout the performance. Also work on your range as this will be more engaging for your audience.

Lewis Clark – Super posture and control. You used the floor well and your flexibility is impressive. Try to use lighter movements as well to vary the range.

Gracie – Super vocal and good connection to the song. Try and add even more expression and show us the positivity in the song. Work on your lower notes, perfecting these will make your performance more engaging.

Alisha Ayres – Love that you smiled throughout the performance which is very infectious! Watch your timing to be on point with the music throughout. Good modern music and good rhythms! A very happy and energetic performance. Thank you for smiling!

Mitchell Torlot – Super tone and control. Always consider that you are performing as soon as you are on the stage, so consider what you are portraying as that first impression. Watch your mic control as you were a long way from the microphone which will affect your projection. As a performance it was very static consider using the stage more. Always practice so you can’t get the song wrong, at times you seemed unsure on the lyrics and so was a little unconvincing! Song choice was poor picking an iconic song by an iconic singer although you did well you are always going to come off second best to the original!

Dance Competition Feedback

Isobel Wannell – Got better as the performance went on but would expect something a little more from the start! Look to use that stage more and ensure you don’t force the vocal and lose control.

Josh Hilborne – Try to keep eye contact throughout the performance, this will be more engaging for your audience. You showed us some good tricks! Perform as much as you can to build up your confidence.

Lauren Murray – Performance wise you need to ensure your moves are more committed and conveying part of the message of the song. Look to choose a song that you can bring your own spin to as an artist, and show us your originality. Good vocal control, keep the energy going!

Hollie – You worked the stage well and committed to the performance. Lovely richness and variation to your vocals. Be sure to work on your diction so that the audience can connect with the lyrics. Your personality really came across well, well done.

Kitty – Super rich vocal and you varied your projection well to give a good delivery. Look to work on the performance to really back up your vocals and express the emotion in the song even more. Try to lighten parts of the song, this will be more engaging for your audience.

Alicia – We like that you worked the stage by taking the microphone off the stand. Vocally take care with your pitch so ensure focus on that. Also look to tighten up your microphone technique, be sure to bring the microphone close to your lips to maximise projection. Try to relax and let the sound come naturally to you.

Tenisha – Great interpretation to the music. You have good flexibility, lovely control! When you kick try to keep your toes straight. We loved your facial expressions – be sure to keep using these, it makes your performance more engaging. A very enjoyable performance.

Dannii Murphy – Powerful projection! Look to back that up with a performance to match. Use your body and arms more to convey the emotion in the song. Try not to shout on the high notes – and try and add in some light and dark. Dynamics will make your performance more engaging.

Charley – Super tone, but watch your timing, projection and your breathing; a good vocal coach will be able to assist you with these. Good song choice, you possibly under prepared as you needed to be more in control. Good stage presence.

Hollie Findlay – Lots of talent, but it wasn’t the best song choice – this is crucial to get right. Singing such an iconic song is difficult as you will always be compared to the original. Luckily you san it very well! It’s extremely difficult to impress with such a big popular song! Try to lift your eyes and engage with your audience more.

Milan – Try to finish the extensions of your legs and arms. Commit more to the performance, in particular, the movements. It was emotional and we could see a connection with the performance. Well done for showing us this!

Rachel Howarth – Good potential! The song choice was very brave, maybe it was a little too big for you. Try picking a song that you can connect with, which also brings out the warmer tones in your vocal. Extremely difficult to impress with such a big popular song by an iconic singer! Vocally you are pushing too hard and losing control, a good vocal coach will be able to assist with song choice and improving your vocal range.

Conor Doran – Your piano skills aren’t at a level to enhance you as an act, you are concentrating so hard on playing you aren’t performing, you aren’t looking up and giving us eye contact. Work hard to bring up your playing levels as you have a super voice. Also try to push your personality in your performance, it would be great to see! You have a nice rounded sound.

Carter Harrison – You started in the wrong key and a bit flat which it meant you were playing catch up from there, which was a shame. Practice til you can’t get it wrong!

Grace Christie – Beautiful dancer and great technique. Great illusions and lovely dynamics but please be careful with your knees!

Erin Whitaker – You have a very crisp vocal with a super tone but perhaps too classically trained, it doesn’t really fit with the life conveyed in the song. The people in the song don’t speak like that, which would make it hard to interpret or connect with, it’s only because we know it from Ed Sheeran and you made it different made it fresh sounding.

Elle Doyle – You have a booming vocal and brilliant expression, we believed every word you sang. The key is picking a song you connect with which also suits bringing out the warmer tones in your vocal. Extremely difficult to impress with such a big popular song by an iconic singer; you did however take care to pick songs a little more leftfield. Think more about your image and style going forward.

Amelie Abass – Beautiful piano playing and lovely vocal tone. It’s great that you have the confidence to perform your own song, however you must practice to the point where you can perform more use your eyes and convey emotion to connect the message in the songs/your music to the audience, you need to look up more. Be careful of singing through your nose on occasions.

Miss Match – Great routine, very modern and good outfits. Try and add more dynamics to keep the performance varied throughout. Also remember to enjoy it!

Jodie Fraser – Love your tone, you have a beautiful, natural voice, but take care to make a good first impression from the start. Unfortunately your mic control was poor. Look to also commit more to convey the emotion within the song.

Aliyah – A very unique act, original story telling and an interesting style, but try and connect and draw your audience in more by engaging with them more.

Southampton Dance Competition – Late-Teen Feedback

Rosie Smith – Lovely soulful performance. Haunting sound to stick in your head which is the making of a hit song. Try and add more expression into your performance to be even better.

Stephanie Colta – Great expression and song choice which suited your vocal superbly. Good eye contact to connect us to the message of the song. Look to work on your projection to be even better vocally to really finish the song with a fitting climax!

Lydia Mackett – Strong interpretation of the story through your movements and dance routine which was great. Good use of space, you kept the fluidity going. Look to work on your facial expressions to develop your performance further.

Tori Allen – Love that you’ve used an experience with your emotions to create an outlet for your emotion. With more performances you can build in more dynamics to really convey the emotion of the song even better. Give the song space to breathe, change the delivery, tempo and projection to really deliver the message to its fullest potential.

Tara – Great that you worked the stage but look to use your eyes to reach out to your audience and connect us even more to the performance. Be aware of your surroundings ahead and during the performance as you stood in front of the projection for a period. Quirky look which is great. Ending was a little sloppy so look to perform to the end.

Mackenzie – Good dynamics to really drive home that chorus and hook. Small point, but always prepare before coming on stage, untidy start taking off your jacket and put unnecessary pressure on yourself. Good expression and liked that you changed the delivery at the end to keep the interest going throughout, well done.

Emily Hare – Commit even more to the performance and acting out the story of the song. Keep your focus on your timing and tuning as it times it ran away from you. More performance will improve this.

Tony Allford –  It was quite a karaoke performance. You committed well to the performance and conveyed the emotion well, but watch your tuning when looking to force the vocal.

Rachel Lang – It felt a very nervy performance which didn’t put us at ease. Lots of talent but song choice is everything so picking such a big song was maybe a challenge for another day. The key is picking a song you connect with which also suits bringing out the warmer tones in your vocal. Extremely difficult to impress with such a big popular song! Look to work on extending your vocal range to be even better.

Amy Louise – Get the delivery right and these songs could be really engaging, slow them down and let them breathe, driving the chorus after getting the timing right. If you haven’t already watch Lucy Spraggan perform acoustically. Lots pf potential but you need to perform as much as you can to build your stagecraft.

Sian Bennett – Beautiful, graceful dance. You are a very elegant dancer. Good extensions and balance. Nice use of the stage and lovely facial expressions throughout.

Morgan Smith – Great to see you again! Liked that you made the song your own, but just watch your expression at times as it’s not always on point. The rapping was the best part, just watch your breathing so you keep the control.

Sophia Agricola – Lovely control, to be even better you really need to let go with the vocal to go to another level. Use your hands and body to help assist conveying the emotion too! Use all the tools at your disposal!

Dominica – Love the unique rasp in your vocal and you felt so comfortable singing such a big song. However give it strong consideration going forward to select a less popular song. Also try and perform more in the instrumental section as that was a missed opportunity to convey emotion and connect with your audience.

Amy Walklett – You gave a wide range of expression, but look to work the dynamics to drive the emotion of the song even more; play around even more with the tempo, delivery and projection. Use the instrumental section to convey emotion rather than keeping it sparse performance wise.

Cara Goodrem – Good composure and you worked delivering the chorus with added projection. Some smart lyrics to make the song engaging. Would love to hear more of your songs. Perhaps consider using your eyes to reach out to your audience more.

UNTAMED – Fantastic energy throughout the performance. Good unison and team work. Work on keeping focus on the still sections. A great way to finish the show though!

Newcastle Talent Show: See industry feedback below. Please be aware views expressed by judges are opinions and subjective to that particular judging panel. These views in no way reflect the views of the TeenStar competition, and are published with a view to being beneficial to the performing acts.

Bethany – Your vocals are always beautiful. Keep working on all of the other important elements that will make you look like a confident performer. Great start and an emotional performance!

Lydia – Your voice has potential, however you hold it in too tightly. Working with a voice teacher will help you to work on this. Lovely ending note. By the second half of the song you really got into it.

Newcastle Talent Show – Late-Teen Feedback

Rebecca Smith – Very confident performance. Not sure on song choice, it didn’t bring anything unique that your voice has to offer. Nice use of the stage.

Laura Robinson – There is definitely something captivating about you. Work on your vocals as they tend to be very shrill particularly in your higher range. Lovely soft voice. Not sure this suited your vocal well.

Samantha Courtney Armstrong – A competent all round performance. Work on making yourself more unique so you stand out as more of an artist. The song choice was outdated, would have like to hear a more current song.

Emily Keeton – Huge improvement since last year in every aspect. The tone of your voice is stunning. Nice strong vocals.

Kenza – Nice quirky tone. Good image, you look like Amy Winehouse. Try not to imitate the artist, instead take the song and make it your own.

Olivia Callaghan – Effortless vocals. If you get the image and performance right you could be amazing! Starting a song acapella is brave and you did it justice.

TeenStar 2015 – Newcastle Talent Show

Harry Davidson – There’s something very likeable about you. You have a great tone to your voice! Well recovered with your cheeky comments. Remind me of John Mayer.

Caitlin – You have a beautiful tone. Gain more experience on stage and it’ll make the world of difference. Good use of legato.

Holly Bowron – Gorgeous vocals. Love the image. Best of your age category today! Very talented young lady, you’ve got star quality.

Samantha Jayne – Gets better every year. Flawless. Love the image. You’re a sophisticated performer. The most professional performance of this category. You made the song your own so well, which is impressive considering your song choice.

Tiernney – Nice image. Good use of the stage. Pitchy in places, but nothing a good vocal coach can’t help you with. Felt the nerves creepin towards the end, try to keep those under control.

Olivia Crawford – You are the complete package, vocally stunning. Be more adventurous with your image, you deserve for no one to forget you!

OLA – A very composed performance which was in keeping with the song. Would like to see more of a connection with the song.

Chloe Marie – You have a beautiful tone to your voice. Your delivery of the song was good. You gave a good performance. Well done!

TeenStar’s Reading talent show saw singers audition in a bid to impress music industry judges

Reading Talent Show: TeenStar’s Reading talent show came to Sub89 in Reading this weekend where acts performed in the hope of impressing music industry judges and progressing to the Regional live shows. The Reading talent show auditions were judged by a panel of industry experts who have complied feedback for the priority acts.

The judges for the Reading talent show included:

Reading Talent Show: See industry feedback below. Please be aware views expressed by judges are opinions and subjective to that particular judging panel. These views in no way reflect the views of TeenStar, and are published with a view to being beneficial to the performing acts.

Reading Talent Show Feedback

Amelia Hutton – You have a nice tone and a good musical theatre voice – just bear in mind being theatrical does make it hard to be individual so try to add your own unique spin on this. It was great to see you get into the character, now look to work on your breathing and opening your throat.

Lydia Ferzoli – This was a good delivery of a country song with a good vocal. You have a nice tone to your voice and kept the rhythm well. Now look to ensure you remain focussed throughout and include more expression within your performance. Perform click here for more on expression and performance.

Jasmine Nituan – This was a great song choice which was beautifully acted out – you show lots of potential at such a young age. You have good control and a strong powerful voice. Don’t be frightened to commit even more to the performance and be careful not to push the top notes.

Megan Gudgeon – You have sweet vocals and a good open tone – well done for adapting to acapella at short notice! Just be aware of what you are doing with your hands so going forward look to add in more expression and performance.

Lily Moram – You have a huge dynamic range with a lovely character and diction to your vocal. It was great you got into character very quickly; now look to relax your performance to enable more natural emotion to come out.

Feedback for the Reading Talent Show

Katy Gill – You have a super tone to your voice and this was a good song choice to show it off with. Going forward, don’t be afraid to add some extra oomph behind those vocals!

Elena Casby – You picked a very big song to sing but you sung it well and your projection was strong.  Now look to work on controlling your notes at the high end- picking a different song would potentially help you with this or ensure you warm up fully.

Shika Desai – You have a nice tone and warmth to your vocal. This was a smooth delivery with good control on the melody; going forwards now look to commit more to the projection and song.

Charley Springer – You have a strong voice with a nice rasp to your vocal. Going forward don’t be frightened to use your hands and perform more.

Sophie Elise – This was a sensitive performance with warm, well-supported vocals. Your confident body gestures suggest you are well rehearsed and this performance is hard to fault as you have clearly put in the work – well done! Now just continue to perfect your performance.

Juliano – You have smooth vocals and we liked the vibe of the song with its original composition. Now look to commit more to the performance and project as best as you can. Fully engage with the audience and make sure your diction is clear.

Amber Silva – Your vocals were good with a nice use of dynamics. Song choice is very important and singing a popular song is not generally advisable so potentially look to sing a different song or add more depth if you are singing a rendition of a timeless song.

Pre-Teen singers performed at the Manchester Talent Show.

Manchester Talent Show: Pre-Teen singers took part in the TeenStar North West England and Scotland Area Final in Manchester this weekend to showcase their talent at the Manchester talent show. The Manchester talent show gave acts the chance to impress industry judges and a capacity crowd for the opportunity to make it to the national TeenStar Grand Final. The industry judges have provided feedback to the Pre-Teen acts who took part in the Manchester talent show.

Manchester Talent Show – Pre-Teen Feedback

  • Asher Halle from Green Pepper Junction Records and the Brit Awards.
  • Music Manager Edward Smith.
  • Peter Ross from Astar Studios.
  • Stacey Coleman from Casby Studios.
  • Jill Bowyer from Salford City Radio.

Manchester Talent Show: See industry feedback below. Please be aware views expressed by judges are opinions and subjective to that particular judging panel. These views in no way reflect the views of the TeenStar competition, and are published with a view to being beneficial to the performing acts.

Manchester Talent Show Feedback

Fleur – A well thought out performance and you adapted the emotion of the song appropriately with your expression. Vocal wise you need a to develop your projection more, and look to be a little more crisp and punctual. Good image and good use of the stage, well done.

Harley Coote – Great to see you playing and accompanying yourself. Although you are static due to the mic stand and guitar you need to look to develop to give more movement in the performance. Good image but work on your breathing during note change. Try and be more confident as you are a good performer, this will come with more performances too.

LOXIE – A well rehearsed routine both vocally and as a routine. With the routine try and give it a little bit more of a snap to be even slicker. Great to see you smiling and enjoying it. Great harmonises and some well worked dynamics to bring it to a climax at the end. A very confident performance and well-choreographed, well done.

Miss Brodie Leigh – Lots of ability just take care not to push that vocal too hard as you have lovely tone. More performances will develop the performance to be more natural. Try and work on your nerves though as at times these did show.

Aisha – Good movement and use of the stage, look to work on giving the performance a bit more snap to be even crisper. A great image and fantastic effort on a good song.

Yna – You have a good tone and to impress even more try giving more expression and emotion in your eyes and facial expression. Liked the change up in the song, that would have been a good time to take the mic off the stand and work the stage. Lovely transition between each bridge.

Macy Page – You have a good vocal range and power to your vocal. To impress even more try giving more expression and emotion in your eyes and facial expression. The performance was quite static and needed more movement. Vocally you are sustaining on the note quite a bit on occasions, so try work on that.

Sam Horton – You sung with lovely control and vocally you were very impressive. The song choice however meant it wasn’t necessarily an original performance. Performance wise you can give us more emotion as the song has a deep soul.

Pre-Teen Manchester Talent Show Feedback

Caitlin – Vocally you impressed well and you used the stage well, just try and commit even more to the performance moves. The performance was a little over rehearsed so it didn’t seem that natural; more performances will iron this out in time. You could also look to vary the moves rather than loop them.

Millie Mae – You have a very controlled and comfortable vocal ability which is way beyond your years. Smooth through the notes and nectar on the ears. Really liked that you made the song your own with a modern twist on an old classic. Lovely image and style and a great overall performance, well done!

Ashleigh – You give lovely expression and your diction is very clear. Good use of props – poor ted! Great use of the stage too. Just need to work on your vocals at times especially on the high notes, working with a good vocal coach can help you develop this.

Camila Disano – The cajon was a nice idea but it did mean there was quite a bit in the backing to compete with. Nice twist to change the language, really liked that. As a performer try and reach out to your fellow performers to show connection, however it was a lovely sound.

Alicia Pollard – You have nice clear diction to your vocal, but get closer to that mic to maximise your projection. Performance wise try and use the stage more and use your hands and face to express the emotion in the song as you touched on it at times.

Chiara Smith – You have good power to your vocals. To connect even more to the audience come closer to the end of the stage. Good mic control but to be even better look to work the dynamics of the song even more. A very confident overall strong sound.

Eliza Mai – You have great expression and a lovely smile. Keywork and backing was a bit clunky when really it should be driving the song along. Great harmonies as well as individual sounds though, so well done on the vocals.

Kiera Swift – You picked a very big song and it is always difficult to impress doing such an iconic song by such an iconic singer but you did it justice, so well done! Also going forward click here for tips on good audition songs and what song selection to choose.

Feedback for the Manchester Talent Show

Ellie – Great to see a contemporary song choice which you performed well! It was a fun and engaging performance.  You used the stage well and your vocals were very good with nice projection. A great performance, well done.

Beau – Lovely tone, but look to develop more dynamic changes so the phrasing and projection are varied slightly throughout. Also look to perform throughout especially in the instrumental sections in particular. Make sure you don’t overuse your vibrato, use it sparingly. Fantastic performance though so well done.

Hollie Robinson – Glad to see you take the mic off the stand and work the stage more, commit to working the stage even more. Nice song choice and great delivery.

Freya Kelly – Lots of power in the vocal and a good song choice to make your own. It’s difficult to time the acapella and instrument but you just about got in synch. Performance wise it needed a bit more and visually towards the end was a little tired. A nice acapella start though so well done for that.

Harry Hodgson – Good commitment to the song but it screamed of adding your own originality either with the performance moves or adding or changing the lyrics. Good projection and great control throughout the performance though.

Amy Chester – Loved that you thought about image and someone was creative with your hair. Take care vocally not to be too shouty and lose the control at times. Also watch your breathing, working with a good vocal coach can help you develop this.

Adalaide – It’s a mini Gaga! Very talented but if you listen to Gaga tracks in particular they focus and centre completely on the hook and chorus to become the hits they are. Try and structure your songs and delivery of the songs with that structure in mind.

Amy-Rose Skelton – It’s great that you are adding the performance moves but try and commit even more to them to be even more impressive. Use the stage more. Unfortunately the nerves got the better of you at times.

Paris Brown – Good mash up. You looked great and gave a well worked routine. Just take care with your timing and tuning with the vocals on occasions. Lovely image and you had great presence so well done!

Birmingham Dance Competition: See industry feedback below. Please be aware views expressed by judges are opinions and subjective to that particular judging panel. These views in no way reflect the views of the TeenStar competition, and are published with a view to being beneficial to the performing acts.

Dance Competition Birmingham Feedback – Pre-Teens

Annie – You have a lovely sweet vocal and have lots of potential! Look to perform as much as you can to build up your confidence. Regarding your performance, try to use the stage to engage your audience with the performance. Try and enjoy your performance and not to look too nervous!

Lucinda White – Your performance was very restricted, you need to portray the emotions in your face more. This is crucial in engaging your audience. Vocally you have a super tone but watch your timing and pitch – a good vocal coach can work with you to be even better.

Rivmix Dance Academy – So much going on! We could see everyone’s individual skills all coming together. When you were all dancing together, you need to more coordinated and in time – this will come with practise. Really well worked music and theme.

Lil Major – Nice control! We felt like it needed more punch and a greater use of the stage though. Consider faster moves to give it an overall faster tempo. You’re very watchable!

Erin – Lots of potential! You need to perform more to build your confidence. Build on your performance and work the stage, this will be more engaging for your audience. Vocally just take care with your pitch as sometimes you lost a little control.

Olivia Hanks Dancer – Good interpretation of the music, it would be nice to see more height on the jumps. Super control and sharp holds. Lovely choreography and song choice, we love that you perform with your facial expressions as well – this is engaging for the audience.

Charlie Bateman – Loosen up! You were very tense; more performance will make you more confident to flow and use the stage more. Vocally look to develop your projection and range to be even better. Working with a singing teacher could be very beneficial for you.

Tayla Penny-Gardener – Lovely floor work, perhaps try and give your moves more snap to look even sharper. The choreography isn’t very inspiring – it needs to be more ‘edgy’. Very talented with your stretches and leaps!

Daria – Great energy, performance, and commitment. So much confidence shown, you really portrayed the message of the song, worked the stage well and owned it! Really well worked choreography which you varied throughout to keep the interest going throughout.

Jack Gibson – Great impact from the start to some well-chosen music. Demonstrating some great flexibility and sharp moves. You have a great stage presence, we loved the turns! You are very talented and have so much energy, well done Jack.

Harriet Walker – Lots of potential! You need to perform more to build your confidence. Work on your performance and work the stage more, this will be more engaging for your audience. Vocally, take care with your pitch as sometimes you lost a little control. Try and vary the dynamics more to push your range to be even better.

Chloe – Massive improvement, you’re more confident and you’ve incorporated this into your performance, its great to see! Great performance qualities for your age. Vocally you had a lot more power, keep developing and improving, we are excited to see how good you can become! You have a great voice for your age.

Millie May Ellis and Kizzirose Wilcock – Mario Brothers – Excellent flexibility and strength in your acrobatic skills. Super timing between the girls and some super complexity in the routine. Try to keep the level of performance up, even when you’re tired.

Isabella Giorgio-Jones – Super vocal control and tone. You have a fabulous and unique voice. You picked a good song for your voice but consider picking a more modern song, this will make your performance more engaging. Try not to force the big notes too much.

JD Duo – Loved the song choice and such a powerful performance with some great jumps. Great technique, excellent choreography, you performed like two adults! Amazing, well done!

Birmingham Dance Competition Feedback

Izzy K – Always lovely to see you smiling! Performance wise try and make it flow more as you were a little robotic. Vocally you have a super tone but watch your timing and pitch – with a good vocal coach, you can build on your projection. Loved the facial expressions, you tell the story very well.

Sam Lyons – Great focus and skills! Loved the song choice, but you need a big movement before hitting the first chorus. This will be more engaging for your audience. Try to work on your flexibility in your upper body movements, this will make your performance more smooth. Overall, a very strong performance.

Jenna – Such a mature vocal, there’s great richness in your tone. Look to commit more to the performance to convey the emotion in the song. Consider using the stage more as this will be more engaging for your audience. Also consider adding more vocal dynamics.

Olivia Hanks Singer – You have bags of talent and you perform well! Would like to hear you do a more modern song, better still, perform a creative cover. Your vocal projection is good. Try not to breath half way through the lines though.

Double Trouble – Lovely routine, good flexibility, enjoyable theme and we liked the varied content! This was very engaging for your audience. Your personality was shining through the performance, this is key to have your audiences full engagement. It was a little repetitive at times, look to incorporate more moves.

Imran Ahmadpour – Liked your confidence and stage presence! However, you are singing in the wrong key, working with a singing teacher could be very beneficial for you. Building your projection is one thing they can focus on with you. You need to listen to your backing music, you need to be in time and keep your pitch in control. Keep working hard.

Bridget Mordue – Good personality! The costume and choices of moves were too inappropriate for the age category though. This is a shame because you are a great dancer! Try to tone it down a little, and you will have masses of potential.

Talha Sarwar – You have a super unique tone finishing very strongly! Look to work on your stage presence. Work and practice hard so it’s impossible to forget the words, this will also come with confidence. You have masses of potential, keep working hard!

Hannah Digby – Love your energy! A great technical performance, with good lines and body positioning. Try and work on a stronger finish.

Gap Kids – Lots of potential, but look to develop your singing as there were a few tuning issues. Performance wise we would like to see more variation and more coordination with the singers. Overall it was a great performance, you all have a lot of potential. To make the performance even better, by adding more distinctive movements.

Finlay Holmes – Excellent work! Very impressive for your age, keep working hard. We love your facial expressions, but make sure to keep them throughout the performance – the intensity was good!

Liam Price – Amazing vocal control and a very comfortable performer. Be nice to see you start to put your own stamp on songs, as we’d love to see some originality from you. You have an amazing vibrato! Keep working hard, we’re sure you will gain success!

Mid-Teen Birmingham Dance Competition Feedback

Fraser Osbourne – Good song choice! Be careful with the vocal control and look to develop your projection to be even better. You connect well with the emotion in the song, however you just need to perfect your stagecraft to be a bit more natural and sincere. Try and work on your lower range to better your voice.

James Afroman – Stage presence is a different level. Confidence and cool, we couldn’t take our eyes off you! Your hair and styling really makes you stand out even more from the crowd. You have great charisma – please keep this, as this will distinguish you from other dancers. Would be good to see your progress even further and add in more complicated moves.

Jack Howorth – Good stage presence! You are performing well, look to commit even more to the performance by showing us your passion. Vocally we’re not sure the song brought out the sweeter tone in your vocal range. Using dynamics would also enhance your performance greatly!

Sophie Edge – You have real character when you dance – fast hands make your performance very engaging! A great performance full of hip hop varied dances. Well done Sophie!

Sunjana – The first impression you gave was poor, you looked incredibly nervous! Try and minimise this before coming on stage. Vocally just take care with your pitch as sometimes you lost a little control. Keep working on your vocals, you have potential.

Avygayle – We love that you made the song your own! It showed us your originality as an artist. It’s great that you smiled throughout and you have a lovely voice, however look to make the performance more outward to your audience. Try not to breath mid-phrase as this can be distracting from your vocals.

Charlotte Crawford – Super control and flow throughout. Great technique, coordination, body positioning and fluidity throughout your performance. Well done!

Ellisse Daley – Such courage to come back on again. You have a lovely powerful vocal and lots of potential however look to perform as much as you can to build up that confidence. Performance wise use that big stage again the more you perform the more you will learn your stagecraft.

Holly-Mae Nelson – Loved your styling. Not sure the song choice suited the sweeter tone in your range, it’s so important to pick a song not only you connect with, but which shows off your vocals. Lots of potential but you need to perform more to build your confidence.

Beech Berry – Very tight routine which you can see you’ve worked so hard to perfect. You have fabulous technique! Try and mix up the music to create more energy and keep the audience engaged.

Maddie Carter – Loved what you did making the song your own. Make sure you get as close to the microphone as possible to maximise your projection. To be even better commit to even more dynamic range.

Dance Competition Feedback

Kellimarie – Great to hear you perform your own song, try to work the dynamics to enhance the chorus so it stands out more. Sometimes changing the tempo, intensity and projection can really help the song stand out more.

Poppy Dawson – Super outfit to really make you stand out with your moves! Great song choice and routine, but try and add more dynamics to your moves by adding different dance styles.

Florentia – You have potential with a nice tone, but you need to look to strengthen your voice. Working with a singing teacher could be very beneficial for you. More performances will help to develop your stage presence.

Grace Merchant – You seemed very nervous and were really concentrating on the moves. Try and let go and relax into your performance. Performing as much as you can will build up your confidence. It needed to be a little crisper and sharper with the moves.

Evie Lopez – You have geat projection, however it was slightly pitchy in places, so be careful not to push your vocal too hard. Look to add more to the performance as you have bags of ability.

Zak Hayes – You have good projection, look to use that in a smarter way by working the dynamics. Also look to perform as much as you can to perfect your stage presence.

Urban Out Steppers – Great energy throughout the performers. Lovely formation and a well worked routine!

Lauren – Song choice is everything and this song choice didn’t feel that you were in your control. Also try and add more facial expressions into your performance. Lots of potential but you need to perform more to build your confidence. Vocally just take care with your pitch as sometimes you lost a little control.

Renaissance – Love vocal groups, but unfortunately poor mic control is really letting you down and ruining your projection and levels. You need to get that microphone as close to your mouth as possible.

Rachelle Davies – Overall it was a good performance, but you need to portray the feelings of the performance more in your facial expressions so we can understand the message more, so try and work on showing more emotion.

Shauty – You have a very deep vocal, but this sounded too low for you and you forced the vocal which caused you to lose your vocal control. Vocally you have super projection, but watch your timing and pitch. Working with a singing teacher could be very beneficial for you.

Alexa Kelly – You have a sweet sound to your vocal, look to now back that up with a more animated performance click here for a performance by Natalie Shay, a previous Open Mic UK winner for a great example.

Birmingham Dance Competition – Late-Teen Feedback

Okeam Briscoe – Silky smooth vocals, and great performance skills, but try and keep your performance on the stage as we struggled to see you. Good expression for an overall excellent performance. A great start to the show well done!

The Conjuring – Totally unique. Great routine with lovely height on the lifts. Try and add more variety to the choreography going forward.

Emily England – You have a strong voice, but take care with your mic control as your projection is dropping out as you are being inconsistent positioning your mouth near to the mic. Look to work on your expression to convey that emotion of the song.

Hannah Jordan – Lovely song, but probably worth considering working the dynamics more to enhance it further and to show off the chorus. Also look to add in some more melody hooks to grab us in more. Try to convey the emotion you are portraying in the song rather than just swaying and potentially missing an opportunity to use your movement to portray the emotion.

Millie Wyles – Lovely routine and technique, but we would like to see more musical interpretation in your performance.

Holly Mayy – What a warm and rich tone, you picked the perfect song for your vocal. You worked the stage well and conveyed the emotion with conviction. We need to find out if you are writing your own material, as you definitely should be with your potential!

Aimee and Dylan – Liked that you wanted to perform a creative cover, but playing guitar over a backing track can sound crowded and notes can clash. It would have benefitted from a bit of space to breathe. As performers try and reach out to each other more, as you looked a little uncomfortable. The more you perform together, the more you will perfect your stagecraft.

Keilah St Juste – Remember as soon as you step on the stage you are giving an impression, look to give us more stage presence to best project the initial first impression, command that stage! Try and work the dynamics more to show your vocal off at its best. Also consider your image start to believe in yourself and make us believe in you! Coming off the stage means you have no lighting on your performance so it is hard to see you.

Denkay – A great routine and performance. Try adding more variety of moves or music mixes to enhance the performance further and keep the audience engaged.

Monique Bailey – Super vocals, but it was a very static performance as you were rooted to the spot for the whole performance and we want to see more expression conveyed.

Rhia McBride – A very nervy start, but well done for relaxing more as you got into the performance. Vocally don’t force the vocal otherwise you lose control and your tuning. Try and work the dynamics more to show off your voice at its best.

Soul4mation – Well worked routine and nice harmonies, but vocally some of the group needs to work on developing their individual vocals. You’re only as good as your worst singer, so look to work with a vocal coach together. The performance was better than the vocals.

Eloise – Super tone and control to your vocal. You are a string singer, but take as much care on the low notes and verses as the high notes, so work on improving the transition. Keep your shape stable as you pushed the vocal too hard towards the end and lost control and then your pitch went off slightly. Less is more in terms of leading into the vocal.

Frankie’s Dancers – Good energy and formations, but you need to deliver the movements stronger. Great use of the stage space, but make sure your timing is perfect.

NOEL – You have nice tone to your vocal, but the song choice was pretty dated and didn’t show off who you are as an artist. It’s also important to pick clothing you are comfortable with, so you don’t spend half the time pulling down your skirt.

Birmingham Talent Show: See industry feedback below. Please be aware views expressed by judges are opinions and subjective to that particular judging panel. These views in no way reflect the views of the TeenStar competition, and are published with a view to being beneficial to the performing acts.

Sacha – Hard song to perform but you nailed it. Individual performance, quality control and powerful inflection. As for stage performance, keep doing what you do. It’s a difficult song to sing, so well done for being brave with your choice.

Eve Pitt – You remind me of Lucy Spraggan. Loved the original song and the story of it. Very unique! More expression would help an already great performance.

Iona – Sweet voice and tone. Try to engage with the song and it’ll show more in your performance, something that we didn’t see a lot of.

Birmingham Talent Show – TeenStar 2015

Rory Naylor – Good stage presence and confidence! Great image and vocal is very rich. You do need to work on your image a little though, there should be a synergy between your performance and your song choice. Watch your mic control as it can affect the quality of your performance. You’ve got such a pleasant personality on stage – plenty of charisma.

Florence Harvey – With a stripped back vocal, try and increase the story selling side of things. Nice voice but remember to make use of the stage more. A strong look which is nice to see. Try to connect more with the audience.

Harmonize – There was a strong chemistry between you two which was nice to see. The original song was good, had a nice topic! With some development this act could work really well together and go places. Some nice harmonies in there! Try breaking up the strumming pattern to add dynamics to your performance.

Abbey – Completed captivated in this performance, you’ve got the star quality! Lovely textured vocals. You’ve got a good stage presence; it looked like you were really into the song. Elegant styling of the performance and confident entrance. Excellent dynamics and expression. Great image, well done!

Georgina Bishop – Nice vocal tone and range, would have liked to see you work the stage a bit more. You’ve got a really powerful voice!

Katie Parkes – Lovely song choice, although be careful which songs to choose, Adele has an incredible voice so it can be difficult to make the song your own. Some tuning and pitching issues, nothing a good vocal coach can’t help you with. Lovely clear vocals but you looked bored up there, try to bring more facial expression to the performance.

Aiyana – Great image, loads of passion and great vocals. A star in the making. Strong styling but a few issues with phrasing and singing. Amazing voice and range!

Regional Final Feedback for Birmingham Talent Show

Florentia – Lovely recording vocals. Good image. Young Alicia Keys! Loved the dynamics in your performance. It’s a shame you had a music stand in the way, it distracted slightly from the performance. Looked very nervous but you warmed into the confidence.

Chloe Milward – Good image – beautiful dress! Love pure tones but your breathing is preventing you from accessing your full tonal range. You need to bring more confidence to your performance. Hard song but sung so beautifully.

Aimee Delaney – Beautiful image. Wrong song choice for your voice type and image. Lovely soft voice. Would have liked to have seen you use more of the stage.

Taylor-G – Nice guitar work and a good mashup. Need to work on your image. You’re a talented young man, but remember to keep engaging with the audience and bring in more performance.

Linda Jerate – Nice jacket! Not the best song choice, but you did it justice. It fell a little flat in some places, nothing a good vocal coach can’t help you with.

Ellie Whitehouse – The acappella start was a nice touch. Good passion in your singing! You need to develop your voice further to improve; working on your breathing and placement will help. This is nothing a good vocal coach can’t assist with you.

Maria Csoka – Great young look, good for the camera. Remain engaged with the audience as much as possible as closing your eyes closes off the connection. You made a good use of the stage! Good image, although not sure about the trainers.

Kerri O’Kane – Strong statement and lovely styling! You performed well and made good use of the stage. Unfortunately you were out of key slightly and therefore your performance was affected. The song choice wasn’t good, unfortunately with singers such as Sam Smith it’s difficult to compete.

Darshae – Great image. Nice accompaniment with those instruments! Good use of the stage! You could feel the emotion in the song! That was a nice performance. You’ve got plenty of potential here! Good look!

Birmingham Talent Show – Mid-Teen Regional Final Feedback

Brease Woolley – Nice and passionate performance – very listenable! You have a voice suitable for musical theatre. Very good vocals! Well done.

Holly May Wright – Plenty of energy – big voice! Good mash up! Great moves, good all round performer! Would love to see more! You’ve really improved since we last saw you. Your image suits your performance really nicely. Nice to see some getting the crowd going which can be very difficult to do!

Tasha Jerawan – Beautiful original song. Great image. Your song matched your vocals perfectly, amazing! Really talented young lady! That’s a really natural performance. Would love to hear more of your songs!

Lydia – Very sparkly and vibrant! Great original song. Try to use more of the stage. One to watch! Good energy in this performance!

Charlotte Hurley – Lovely performance! Very hard song to sing and you did a really nice job! Remember to support those bigger phrases! You look lovely, that dress is beautiful. Some parts of the song were a little nasally, this is something a vocal coach can help you with.

Stephanie Addison – Good styling but it was an odd choice of sing to sing in such a structured way. Beautiful girl with such a sweet voice!

Maria – Great song choice but slightly out of your range. You look fabulous! You look very comfortable on stage.

Alesi Summer – Wow! Great song and delivered with such passion. Nice audience interaction which can often be difficult to do! You’re a really good performer. What an improvement! You’ve matured so much in the last year, vocally so much stronger and brilliant stage presence!

Dance Competition Yorkshire Feedback – Pre-Teens

The Royal School of Dance – Brilliant start to the show! Beautifully choreographed routine, however if you are going to lip sync be sure to know the words else it looks unprofessional.

Rhiley Mai – Playing with your dress showed the nerves, try and relax more. We would like to have seen you move around stage a bit more. It was a very big song for such a little person, so well done!

Alexis (The Royal School of Dance) – A very energetic performance, however it felt like the routine was a little too mature for your age category. Great exit off the stage, that was a nice touch.

Hannah and Abigail – A well timed and well executed performance. You both looked to be enjoying yourselves on stage which was great to see!

Georgia Mahoney – Beautiful presentation. You are a joy to watch and had such a wonderful connection with the audience, well done.

Ava Auton – What a great smile! Beautiful high kicks, lovely energy and good use of the whole stage. A fun and enjoyable performance.

Ellie Ferguson – Great song choice, it really suited your vocal. Good emotion shown in your performance, just be careful of your pitch on the trills.

Jeannie Bentham – Nice routine, but be careful with your diction, we need to hear every word. Try not to worry about what movements you need to make so you can enjoy being on stage more.

Niamh Henderson – You have such a great voice, but you just need to get over the nervous. More performances will help you develop your confidence. Show your audience how much you enjoy the stage by smiling too.

Sophie Bulmer – Great eye contact and connection with the audience. Work on developing your lower register, which a good vocal coach can help you with. Overall a good, confident performance though.

Twinkle Toes – A great piece and a lovely story, followed by a great energetic part. Loved the tempo change it added so much variety to your performance which was great.

Phoebe Dalton – Simple but beautiful! Great dress and fabulous eye contact with your audience. Just work on your mic technique to help your projection.

Yorkshire Dance Competition

Katie Louise – Always warm up your vocals before you perform, as you unfortunately struggled in some parts. Good hand movements to show the emotion of the song in your performance.

Excel Juniors – Great energy and smiles, however it’s very distracting when some of you are lip syncing and some are not, so try not to do this. Loved your audition and loved this performance too, well done.

Grace Carol – Smile and relax, don’t let the nerves get the better of you. Try and use the stage more and practice at home in the mirror. Just learn to relax and enjoy yourself.

Grace Rogers – Such a powerful voice from someone so small! Great use of the stage and fabulous outro. You have lots of potential, well done.

Claudia Bennett – Wow, wow, wow! Such a professional performance all the way through. You didn’t miss a beat, and were so on point, it was so enjoyable to watch. Definitely one to watch in the future!

Martha Brice – Good use of the stage, and nice eye contact with your audience. You looked to be enjoying yourself on stage which was great to see, well done.

Sean Bentham – Good energy on stage. You picked a very difficult song to cover, but you performed it well. You looked to be enjoying yourself on stage, which was great to see and we weren’t expecting the Irish dancing at the end, so that was a good surprise!

Rebecca Atkinson – Wonderful connection when you stepped away from mic stand. Great eye contact with your audience. A very confident performance well done.

Evie Burt – Such strong mature vocals for your age. Good use of stage. A very confident performance well done.

S. O. Reps – Powerful performance! There are so many stars in this group. Try not to lip sync except the spots where highlighted, as this is quite distracting. The little boy with curly hair was fantastic to watch!

Cassis Wells – Be careful with your mic technique as this if affecting your projection. Practice your low notes more, and look to perfect your stage look to match the song choice. Well done on such a difficult song to sing.

Sweet Harmony – Great image and enjoyable stage presence. Great smiles and interaction with each other, however you need to work on your mic technique.

WYSPA – A well thought out performance. A very dramatic and entertaining piece. We liked the costumes a lot.

Scandalous Didi Pro – A really fun performance, with such great energy. Even though you are in the pre-teens category you have set the benchmark really high over all the age groups.

Mid-Teen Yorkshire Dance Competition Feedback

Zoe Clark – Wasn’t set on your image, but you have a great smile and connection with the audience. Keep practicing on your breathing technique as you struggled in some areas.

Hurt – Beautiful entrance, fabulous extensions and precision. A very controlled and fluid performance with great strength and beautiful facial expressions.

Caitlin Bratby – A very nervous start, but it was nice to see you relax into your performance half way through. Try not to play with your clothes as it distracts from your performance.

Charlotte & Ciara – A very talented performance. Loved the costumes, and great use of the stage. At times you were slightly out of sync with each other, but there were some challenging moves so that is understandable. Keeping working hard together.

Conor Goldby – There’s something really likeable about you. You may not be the best singer in the competition but you are so enjoyable to watch and listen to. Could definitely see you in a boy band.

Kate – Very fidgety on stage playing with your dress which is quite distracting, however you have great eye contact and use of the stage. To combat the nerves try bringing in a guitarist to bounce off rather than a backing track.

Jay Casey – A very natural performer and entertainer. You have a very strong stage presence and would love to see you do an up beat track with possibly some dance moves. You remind us of a young Mark Owen from Take That, definitely boy band material.

Mia Pearson – Beautifully choreographed and a very emotive performance. Great facial expressions, and a wonderful connection with the audience. Would like to have seen more!

Josh – Your guitar was slightly out of tune, so always check that before you perform. Work on your mic technique as you are moving away from the mic to look at your guitar chords which affects the sound. You were a little nervous which showed in your vocals at times, however it was nice to see how much you enjoy singing and performing.

Albert Stott – Great smile and great connection with the audience. A smooth performance with lots of confidence. Be careful of your breaths in the middle of phrases, try and work on that and learn where the best place to breath is. It was a little rigid with movements but vocally very strong.

Eve Taylor – Ellis Beautiful voice, however would be nice to see you relax on stage a bit more. Try not to close your eyes for long periods of time as this looses your connection with the audience.

Dance Competition Feedback

Claudia & Ellis – Amazing! Great timing and a wonderful emotive and contemporary piece. We really felt it, rather than if you were just going through the motions. Definitely stars!

Amber Ince – Love your quirky vocal tone, however it was pitchy and shouty in places, a good vocal coach can help you with. Great expression and emotion and good eye connection with audience. Liked how you changed the low notes to suit your voice more. Overall a good performance.

Aliessia Prandini – Try and work on your mic technique more as you need to sing into your mic and not over it. It was pitchy in places, however you gave good eye contact with the audience and had a nice head voice.

Rhiannon Prideaux – An enjoyable performance. A well thought out and pieced together, however mouthing words can be distracting from the performance, so try not to do this.

Charlie Slater – A very calm and cool performance whilst playing the keyboard. You have such lovely warm vocals, but we would like to see more facial expressions to express the emotion more.

Maddie Ogle – A short but sweet performance and well executed. You showed great work and commitment to the routine, well done.

Alexandra Sorley – Confident delivery of the song, you made it your own which was great! There was a slight slip on the guitar but you saved it, so well done for that. You have so much character on stage, lovely to see a singer enjoying herself.

Excel Teens – Just as good as your first audition, great energy and synchronisation. Great choice of music, the audience loved it!

Shay Byrne – Try not to fiddle with your hair whilst performing, as it’s distracting visually. You have a great voice, and we can tell you love to perform and so you are a pleasure to listen to.

DUPLEX – Amazing! You were on fire! You both can definitely dance. It was a very cool and slick routine from start to finish, hats off to the the choreographer. Definitely a future act to watch out for!

Victoria & Trisha – Unfortunately the guitar was out of tune which let the performance down. However the vocals were strong but the song choice didn’t show off the full vocal ability.

Lauren Kacis – A very well executed performance, and such an improvement from your audition. Great hand and body movements whilst performing and good eye contact with your audience.

WYSPA (Alzheimers Lost Memories) – A very meaningful message behind your dance routine. Loved the costumes and great teamwork shown on stage. Excellent choreography and conviction, well done.

Brooke – Beautiful performance, definite an improvement throughout the song. You have a lovely tone to your voice, but hesitant and didn’t commit to the big notes, have confidence in yourself to really go for them.

Scandalous Pro – A very dynamic performance, all exceptionally strong performers and amazing choreography. A very powerful performance, Diversity have some serious competition, watch out for these guys!

Yorkshire Dance Competition – Late-Teen Feedback

Slay3rZ – Great start to show 3. A vibrant and strong performance, excellent timing and great synchronisation. Fab energy and overall you SLAYED it!

Jake – When hearing you are doing an Adele cover expectations are high. You gave a great, warm performance which you made your own. You have a great presence on stage, and a wonderful smile.

Issy – Try to incorporate some performance techniques so you are not just standing whilst singing. You have a nice voice but the nerves held you back.

Ria Davies – Nice to hear an original song. You have a lovely voice, but remember to smile to help make a connection with the audience before you start your performance. More performances will help you develop your stage presence.

Hollie – A strong performance. You have a very soulful tone to your voice, and you had some well held notes. It would be good to see you do an up beat song next time.

Ellie Boan – Very brave to sing a cappella but would have liked a backing track to kick in after the first few bars. Beautiful smile and great eye contact with your audience.

Roxy – Try to incorporate some performance skills to build your stage presence, use the stage more. You have lots of potential with your voice. It was a nice song but it could do with a bit more feeling putting into it. Try and work on your mic technique as you have a habit of pulling the mic in and out whilst singing.

Zara – Good stage presence with great emotion. A nice quirky vocal tone, but make sure you warm up before you perform as you sounded strained in places.

Harrison Hartley – Excellent performer, you sang with a lot of emotion which came across well. We still feel you could have given even more and you maybe played it safe.

Pink Americano – Good performance, we enjoyed the dance moves too. Work on your image going forward. It felt there wasn’t much interaction within the group and you need to use the stage more. We would like to see some harmonies and not just the melodies.

Douglas Anderson – Don’t look so scared as you are a very good guitarist and have a lovely vocal tone. More performances will help to build your confidence which is needed.

Fierce – Very fierce! Absolutely smashed it, all amazing dancers, so synchronised, fab energy and fantastic choreography, 10 out of 10!

Lydia Milburn – Nice to see someone bringing something different to the table. Would look at your image to reflect your singing style, but there was such passion in your voice, well done!

Abigail McEwan – A confident performance, which was well executed. Be careful of your low notes at the end of trills, and try and work on your breathing technique.

Katy Smith – Such a beautiful message performed with style. it was a well presented performance, but always follow through on the leg extensions.

Jessica Nash – You have a very soulful tone, and we can see you enjoy yourself on stage, which is great. You looked and sounded the part, and it was wonderful that you added character to the song.

Livvy Kathryn – Strong performance, and good use of the stage. Nice eye contact with the audience, very well done.

Ebony-May – Loved that you dressed to match your song choice. Good movement and use of the stage. You have great lungs and solid key changes.

Lucy & Molly – A well danced performance with a relevant and nice message. Perhaps it needed a little more energy in some parts, and be careful not to mouth the words as this can be distracting, otherwise a great performance.

Kyle Rawson – Refreshing to have an original song. You have a very good tone and control of your voice, however we would like to have heard your falsetto more. Good emotional use of your hands and had lots of passion on stage.

Jimi Mistry – Nice warm vocals, and you showed good expression. We could see how much you enjoyed the song, overall a very solid delivery of the song.

Megan Blackburn – Great voice and lovely smile. Try and enjoy being on the stage and show us that you are having fun. The interaction with the audience is what was missing.

Alfie – Great presence on stage, it was a very confident performance. Be careful of your pitch on the long notes, you have a gritty texture to your voice. Well played and performed.

Jenna Darrell – Brilliant mic technique, however it was not the best of song choices to show your vocal range and ability. Great use of stage and wonderful connection with the audience, a very confident performance.

Excel Dance – Strong intro and great routine. Love the fact that you all appeared to have fun on the stage. Even when mistakes are made, you carried on like true professionals, well done!

Industry judges provide feedback for the TeenStar Manchester dance competition.

Manchester Dance Competition: Industry judges have provided feedback for the acts competiting in the TeenStar Manchester dance competition. The industry judges have provided singing and dance feedback on how acts can be successful in developing their performances.

Manchester Dance Competition – Feedback

The judges providing feedback at the Manchester dance competition were:

  • Jason Kelly – JK Management
  • Kate Hollands – Pro Voice Studios
  • Jo Edwards – Stage Pro Academy
  • Dave Payne – Entertainment Consultant, Talent Scout and TeenStar producer

Manchester Dance Competition: See industry feedback below. Please be aware views expressed by judges are opinions and subjective to that particular judging panel. These views in no way reflect the views of the TeenStar competition, and are published with a view to being beneficial to the performing acts.

Dance Competition Manchester Feedback – Pre-Teens

Lily Draper – Great song choice for you, image worked well. Don’t be afraid to use the stage width. Smile more, especially when walking on. Good mic control. Perform to the audience rather than just singing at them, they are there to see you! Very enjoyable performance. Looked great, pretty voice, just need to work on performing visually and movement.

Katie Cassidy – Great music, image worked for the piece. Good energy, however it felt a little rushed in places, take your time and relax. Good use of stage and great technique.

Just George – Smile! When you walk on be confident, even if you’re nervous. Refreshing song choice, but be careful not to nervously play with the mic stand or mic/ Image worked and stood out. You could tell you love singing, but let your face show it more! Good attempt to get the audience involved! Nice to see you take mic off stand.

Tiny Stars – Good emotion in your performance, you complimented each other well. Good use of stage, costume idea at the end worked well but try to make the section smoother for full effect. Good story telling.

Caty – Beautiful tone and vocal  control. Good image, it suited your age. Don’t stand too far back from the mic. We would have liked to have seen you take mic off stand and use stage (especially during the instrumental section). Adele is always tricky to sing and compete with her, but you did a god job.

Missy – Image worked, great energy, great song choices. Be careful not to be too repetitive, add more dynamics to keep it interesting. Would like to see a little more structure to choreography.

Charlotte Ryan – Refreshing song choice, and image worked for your age. You moved around the stage a little, but if it’s a big stage use the width – during instrumentals especially. Good eye contact, just be careful not to pull away from mic too much. The more experience you get on stage the more confidence you will have.

Penny – Vocally very capable and good control. Smile, especially when you walk on. Perform visually to your audience, work on facial expressions. You need to tell the story of the song visually, not just vocally. Perform to the audience and not just over their heads at the back.

Sophie Taylor – Image worked for your age, but would like to hear you sing something more age appropriate. You have a sweet voice, so it would lend it self to a sweet song more. Performed with hands with occasional eye contact, but would like to see you perform to audience more. Take the mic off stand too at some point. Lovely soft tone to voice.

Destiny Andrew – Loved the costume and prop, great energy and 100% commitment to what you were doing. Great control, but you went from serious face to smiley face a little too much. Would like to have heard some shouts at certain points. Great mix of music. You put your heart and soul into the dance. Very gifted, well done!

Mahnoor – Image kind of worked, but black coat and jeans on a black stage doesn’t always stand out enough. Perform visually not just vocally, use facial expressions more and use the stage width more. End confidently, be sure of yourself. You can definitely sing well but you need to think about the other elements of your performance.

Phoebe Billingham – Enchanting music choice, costume added to performance. Great ability and great flexibility, more of a contortionist, good use of stage. Work on facial expressions, don’t let us see that you’re thinking about what you’re doing. Great performance.

Ellie Stewart – Nice to see you playing the ukulele, it was a good song choice for you. Image can be improved, and try and perform visually more, use facial expressions and perform to the audience – not over their heads. Smile more, not sure you smiled at all. Great vocal, loved the song.

Manchester Dance Competition Feedback

Mia & Ella – Enjoyed the theme of the piece, (perhaps use a trophy on the stand as that’s what’s mentioned in the music). Also maybe use a red hat and a blue hat to keep in sync but be a little different as you’re not supposed to be together in the story. Ensure your spacing is right on the stage, keep the table between you visually.

Livia Luckson – Nice dress and nice to see you performing visually, but work on facial expressions too. Don’t be rooted to the spot – use the stage width. Nice vocal and control

Nicole Saunders – Great conviction. The music needed the vocal on it rather than the backing track version. Good use of stage, however it got a little repetitive at points so work on dynamics to keep it interesting. Strong start and finish, a confident performer.

Darcey Barker – You really moved me, you delivered such an emotional performance. Nice soft tones to your voice. Don’t nervously play with hands. Good that you performed visually, but would have been nice to see you take mic off stand and use stage. A vocal coach should be able to help you engage your full voice. Have confidence at the end!

Ruby – Image worked well for age, but try not to over perform with hands (but nice to perform visually). Good to see you take mic off stand and perform to audience. Good use of stage. Vocally struggled in some places but ticked other boxes. Did not seem nervous at all, great confidence.

Honey and Sugar – Good energy! Brought enjoyment to the stage. Don’t just perform to your fans though, perform to everyone in the audience. In parts you weren’t as committed and looked like you were making it through. Don’t let us see you’re thinking about what you’re doing, disguise that with facial expressions.

Jamin – Started out of key and time with music but pulled it back quickly. You clearly have a good voice, and the image worked for you. Would have been nice to see you take mic off and use stage. Be careful not to rush the vocal. You have a brilliant voice, but perhaps nerves got the best of you.

Ellie Rose – Great costume and makeup. Good use of levels and stage. Great facial expressions and good structure to choreography. Told the story very well.

Jessie Wright – Terrible backing track! You had one of the strongest voices but your music didn’t help you. Image was good, but avoid black on a black stage with black back drop. Performed visually but could use stage width more. Got a little shouty in places. You really went for it on the chorus but didn’t seem as committed to the verses.

Dancing Princess – Great costume, energy and music. Test your costume works before the day, but when the head piece came off you carried on superbly, well done. A little slow in places which seemed like you were a little lost or waiting. Infectious passion, brought lots of fun to the stage!

Amelia Rose – Lovely dress, perfect for you. Don’t stand too far back from mic. Perform to the audience, not over their heads. Work on your facial expressions, learn what the words mean that you’re singing and express that emotion. Good pronunciation and diction. Good voice and I think more can come from it with a little help.

Ethan Cross – Good song choice for you, but make sure you don’t nervously walk around the stage, make your movements for a reason. You performed visually, but make sure it’s to the audience. Nice image, but maybe not all black on a black stage and black back drop. You had fun and brought energy to the room!

Alexandra Durham Parker – Image worked for you, maybe not all black though. Felt like you struggled with guitar a few times and perhaps put you off vocally occasionally. Maybe too many songs performed so we never really got into any of them for long enough. You have a nice voice but the performance lacked a little energy.

Alliyah Bindura – Use a backing track, it will help! Love your energy and personality. Visually looked great. Prefered your 1st song, it didn’t work for me when you went into the other song and then back again.

Bollywood Dance – Great costume, lots of energy and great facial expression. Used the stage well. Would have liked more structure, as it became a little repetitive at times.

Hannah – Good use of stage and levels. Great smile! Try to ensure all sections flow into each other. A floaty dress would have added to the performance.

Mid-Teen Manchester Dance Competition Feedback

Alicia Pollard – Nice dress, but sometimes black on a black stage/backdrop can get a little lost. Good composure and control. Moving performance, beautiful voice. Can work on chest voice more and not just head voice. Try to perform visually a little more, work on facial expressions as you looked a little bored at times. Enjoy yourself! Nice smile at the end though.

Paul Mathias – Great ability, a passionate performance. Work on your facial expressions. Image can be improved, it didn’t add anything to your performance.

Mollie Aitken – You have a sweet voice, but we could see you were nervous, try to disguise that. If you enjoy performing let us see it, smile. Image was ok, but try to avoid black on a black stage. Use the stage more, don’t stand still and work on facial expressions. Be confident at the end, say ‘thank you’ and walk off if it ends early.

Mystic – There were a few moments when you weren’t sure what came next, be confident, even if you make a mistake, the audience might not even realise! Image worked well as a duo. Some sections did look like you were trying to make it through rather than perform. Perform to the audience, not the stage.

Fabienne Clarke – Confident walk on, and a very confident performance. You performed to audience well with good eye contact. Image worked well, but not sure the song really showed your voice to it’s maximum.

Harrison Langham – Good control in most places. Confident stride onto the stage! Image stood out. Don’t perform to the back of the room, perform to the audience in front of you and use the stage width more.

Ella Stevenson – Nice dress! Good use of stage width. Your facial expressions were great. A very passionate performance, but try not to let us see you concentrating on your performance too hard, relax and enjoy it more.

Emeli – Great to see some original music. Image worked for age, and you performed to audience with good eye contact. A passionate performance you connected with your own song well. Great to see you taking the mic off the stand and use the stage. Vocally some parts need work, perhaps a vocal coach could help with getting the best out of your voice for your own song.

Alice Amber – Big potential, great vocal ability, but perform to your audience, not over their heads. Need to work on the higher register of your voice. Take the mic off the stand at some point and use the stage, it will add more visually and relax you. Brave song choice, which for the most you did well but you did struggle in places, but don’t back away from the mic so much. Ensure your end of performance is confident, if it needs to fade, just say thank you and walk off.

Jake Bloem – Good passion in your song, we could tell you enjoy singing. Struggled vocally in place. Image can be improved – think stage and not ‘meal out’. Take the mic off the stand at some point. Perform to your audience rather than just looking at them.

Lilli Bretana – Good use of the stage space, and great image. Work on your facial expressions to develop the performance further.

Coco – Loved the image, it was stage presentable but also age appropriate. Performed visually, good to see the mic coming off the stand. Not sure the song suited your vocal completely though.

Evan Reynolds – Try to hide those nerves at the start! Performed to audience well and image worked well, but avoid black on a black stage. Timing issues with backing track, seemed to be fighting against the track at times and had some pitching issues. Perhaps a vocal coach could help with getting the best out of your voice.

Ava Bielderman – You gave a believable performance, and you connected to your song well. Good story telling, the facial expressions matched the song. Image can be improved a little. Use the stage more, don’t stand too far back.

Dance Competition Feedback

Mia Monteverde – Great costume, good facial expressions and great character. Nice use of stage and levels. Great flexibility but it needs more contrast in the story.

Abby Langley – Image was ok, but don’t wear black on a black stage as it is easy for you to get lost in the shadows. Performed to the audience well, but you could look to add more emotion into your performance.

Iffan Roberts – Fantastic ability, great variety of tricks, levels and speed. So captivating! Image can be improved to make you stand out more, but a great performance.

Lucy and Max – Tie your image in together and perform in sync, show us you’re enjoying yourself. You have good potential, but you need to lose the nerves visually and enjoy yourselves! Great tone.

‘13’ – Great that image was in sync, but lets avoid black! Loved the cap, lets have more individualism like that but still in sync. Nice to see some choreography. Try to make facial expressions natural. Great harmonies.

Master of the House – Great costume and good commitment to the act, nice use of the stage and props. Timing went off a little towards end (dance) though which was a shame.

Freya Kelly – Smile when you walk on, show us that you are excited to perform! Great control, lovely version of the song. Great image and great energy, but remember to perform to the audience, not over their heads. Eye contact is key. Work on your mic technique.

Dan Sheriston – Great image for you, and good energy. Open eyes more to connect to your audience. Great tone but add more vocal dynamics.

Sam Wise – Amazing ability and such a unique performance, but your image didn’t make you stand out, so work on that. Try to use the stage width more.

Jessica Barlow – Image worked for you and good song choice. Would have liked you to take the mic off the stand at some point and use the stage. Be careful not to sing over the mic too.

Molly – Nice song for you, and the image worked. Unfortunately there were issues with your guitar tuning, so always make sure that is in une before you perform. Good eye contact, it was great to see you were getting into the music.

Izzy – Loved the song choice! Image was ok but with that song it could be improved. Watch mic control when traveling across the stage. Great vocal ability, but perform to the audience rather than over their heads.

Beth Berry – Image was ok, but perhaps not right for your song choice (also avoid black on a black stage). Don’t perform over people’s heads and use the stage width a little more. It was a bit shouty in places, you have lots of potential but you just need to work on control which a good vocal coach can help you with.

Yna – Great tone to your voice and good image. You sold the song well, but just watch your head movements, watch back on video if possible to see what you were doing. Don’t be afraid to use the stage width and don’t pull away from the mic too much.

Paiden Ball – Image matched the ukulele performance, but be careful not to just sway from side to side nervously. At times you looked uncomfortable due to nerves. You have a lovely tone to your voice, so be confident in yourself!

Jaiden Sayer – Great music choice. A very passionate performance, but your image can be improved, don’t wear black on a black stage. Great performance, well done!

Jodie and Amber – Image tied together nicely. Good eye contact, you came across very confident. Work on your harmonies a little more and it felt that the guitar wasn’t in tune, so always check that before performing.

Macy Page – Lots of character, a very solid performance! Nice old school song choice, and it was good to see you take the mic off the stand and use the stage. Performed visually. Would like to hear more of your vocal range as you didn’t show off to be one of the strongest vocalists in the show, but you performed well had confidence and used the stage, as well as good eye contact too!

Emelia Mason –  You performed visually well, with a good use of facial expressions. Don’t be afraid to use the stage width and move around. Controlled vocal, but not so keen on song choice.

India M – Nice quirky performance. Image could be improved to add to that quirky performance. Loved your tone. A little shouty in places, but I think you knew that, so just pull that back in future.

April Lee – Image great. You performed visually well, it was nice to see you take the mic off the stand use the stage. Not sure the song showed your voice as well as it could. A little slow for my liking in a competition. Be careful with your diction too.

Megan – Nice tone to your voice, the song suited your vocal well. Don’t look so nervous, even if you are, you have to cover those nerves. Relax, have fun, remember why you’re doing this. Perform visually, don’t nervously hold your hands and don’t pull back from the mic so much. Work on image, as it was a little too casual for a show. Great tone to voice, lovely and unique, be confident in yourself!

Holly Feeney – Good quirky song choice but not sure it showed your voice to it’s fullest. Performed visually with a good use of the stage. Image can be improved (avoid black on black stage). Make sure you give eye contact and perform to the audience not over their heads.

Grace – Song choice really suited your voice, but make sure you use your facial expressions, to express the emotion of the song to your audience. Unfortunately you had some tuning issues at one point, a good vocal coach can help you with this, click here for for tips on.

Manchester Dance Competition – Late-Teen Feedback

Alex Herriman – Nice to see a mix of dance styles. Good mix of music, but work on your facial expressions as you perform. Your image also needs improving to stand out more. Loved the tap, but need to work on timing slightly.

John Churton – A very passionate performance, and nice original song. Performed to the audience well, but would prefer to see you standing. Don’t spend too long looking at your guitar, make eye contact wth your audience. Tone down the facial expressions a little, but great storytelling, well done!

Charlotte Gant – Nice voice and good eye contact, but would have liked to see you take the mic off the stand. Don’t think your outfit needed the jacket.

Nicola Mckay – Nice smiley entrance to the stage, that makes such a difference! Nice tone to your voice, and great control. Image can be upped for a show though and don’t stand too far back on the stage. Not sure the song allowed us to hear your voice at it’s best, I’m sure there’s more in there!

Jasmine Basi – Image was fantastic. Good song choice, and nice tone to your voice. Look up from your keyboard more and connect with your audience through eye contact! Perform to the audience otherwise we may as well not be here. Occasionally the keys seemed to distract you from the vocal. Good to perform with instruments, but make sure you’re ready to do so.

Zahra Huq – Great tone to your voice, and nice dress. Song choice is a little overdone these days and you had some timing issues at the start. Use the stage more, and perform to the audience.

Mhairi Henderson – Nice song choice for your vocal, you committed to the song well, but don’t be afraid to use the stage width and move around. Have more confidence in yourself!

Angel Nkomo – Nice vulnerability to your vocal, but it didn’t work for me jumping from one song to another so quickly. Would like to see you standing up. Like the idea, but it needs work.

Emily Ray – Lovely tone to voice, great strength. Very mature voice for your age. Performed to everyone with good eye contact. Image can be improved though, think stage/show and use the stage width just a little more.

Anna Rose – Nice song choice for you, but we really wanted to hear a bit more power and energy. Try to avoid black on a black stage (which most are).

Nu-Vybe – Great staging and great lines, loved the image. Excellent energy! There were some issues with timing, but overall great performance.

Tyler Westwood – Strong voice. You really got into your performance and clearly love singing. Work on your facial expressions and open your eyes a little more. Try to use the stage width more and avoid black clothes on black stage.

Dance Competitions Bristol Feedback

A-game – A beautiful performance, very emotion and moving. We liked the team work involved in your performance, you were all extremely focused. However, your transitions between the moves need to be a little smoother, but this will come with practise.

Kimberley Bethan – You have such a soulful voice but the performance needs to be brought alive! Look to develop your eye contact and expression to be more engaging for your audience. Look to give us more movement in the performance.

Nicole Finch – You have good presence and a lot of confidence which is great! Song choice wise it was a little dated, so look to pick a song choice that shows you off as a potential artist. Try and reach out with your eyes more to connect with your audience. You have excellent control of your voice and breathing, don’t be afraid to push yourself a little.

Charlotte Draper – You have a lovely tone but you started off very quiet so look to make a good first impression. Improving your vocal projection will help do this. You seemed slightly nervous on stage, look to minimise these as much as possible as these can hinder a performance. Try to work your vocal dynamics, this will be more engaging for your audience.

Lois Harris – You have all the potential but need to look at presenting it as best as you can! Also as an acoustic guitarist you need to write your own songs – the audience will be able to engage with your lyrics. You seemed at home on stage! You enjoyed yourself, which was great to witness.

Jess Sheppard – A very sensitive performance to an emotional song. With a song like this you need to really drive the dynamics and commit to the high notes. Performance wise could have looked to use the stage more and reached out more to your audience with your eyes.

Feedback – Bristol Dance Competitions

Saskia Robbins – Great idea to do a mash up but you must ensure they aren’t just put together, their needs to be a distinctive transition between the songs. Vocally you have a super tone but look to vary this to be more engaging,.

Kieran Marsh – Lots of potential here just try and add a bit more sensitivity in the song – let it breathe and let the emotion of the song sit with the performance. Varying the dynamics would really help the performance and for the chorus to stand out even more.

Lara Goodwin –The song suited your vocal nicely and you were comfortable with the song but you also didn’t really climb into the song and show us its real potential. It would have been good to have seen a bit more commitment and passion.

Laurie Yarde – Not sure this song suited your vocal as your vocals felt under strain throughout. You need to look to select songs that bring out the sweeter tone in your vocal. Watch your mic control, get that microphone as close to your mouth as possible for maximum volume and so you don’t lose projection. Your vocals are very pure and sincere.

Olivia Press – You have a lovely tone! Look to make a good first impression and look to develop your projection to show your vocal off at it’s very best. Look to perform as much as you can to build your confidence, as you seemed nervous on stage. Vocally watch you pitch, especially when you go through the gears to get power at the top notes. Your passion is admirable!

Dion Sheppard – You have a polished vocal to a massive theatre number. Commit even more to the expression in the song. The backing vocals in the song did detract from your vocal as they were too loud in the mix. Try not to let your nerves affect your vocals and breathing technique. Try to minimise your nerves as much as possible, this will better your performance.

Industry judges provide feedback for the TeenStar Liverpool dance competition.

Liverpool Dance Competition: Industry judges have provided feedback for the acts competiting in the TeenStar Liverpool dance competition. The industry judges have provided singing and dance feedback on how acts can be successful in developing their performances.

Liverpool Dance Competition – Feedback

The judges providing feedback at the Liverpool dance competition were:

  • Jo Edwards – Stage Pro Academy
  • Karen Corson – Event Organiser
  • Jason Kelly – JK Management
  • Dave Payne – Entertainment Consultant, Talent Scout and TeenStar producer

Liverpool Dance Competition: See industry feedback below. Please be aware views expressed by judges are opinions and subjective to that particular judging panel. These views in no way reflect the views of the TeenStar competition, and are published with a view to being beneficial to the performing acts.

Dance Competition Liverpool Feedback – Pre-Teens

Fireflyz – Good energy and good mix of music. Every performer really enjoyed themselves and so did we. Infectious energy and great use of stage. A brilliant start to the show, well done!

Nieve Sullivan – Great energy, but try and use the stage a little more. We would like to have seen you have a little more enthusiasm.

Georgia Hattersley – Fantastic vocals and vocal tone! Don’t be afraid to take mic off stand and use stage. Smile a little more, even though song doesn’t lend itself to smiling, smile as you come on and off stage, lets us know you are enjoying what you’re doing! Try to perform visually a little more.

Leah Smith – This is a very big song, but you handled it well. Image was presentable, but try and use the stage a little more, don’t stay rooted to one spot.

Faith – Well done for coming back on, but remember even if you make a mistake the show must go on. Have confidence in what you’re doing, we would have loved to have seen more of your performance!

Adriana Tremarco – Lovely dress, well done on image! Next time, ensure you smile, at least when you walk on and off stage. If you enjoy it, we will! Let go of your hands, use your facial expressions and body to perform visually…we can see you!

Ergierona – Nice use of vocal performer and a dancer. Song choice was a little sleepy in a competition environment. Vocalist: use stage more too and don’t forget to smile!

Elle-May – Nice lively song choice but it didn’t really allow you to show off vocals enough. Liked the image. Smile more if you can, don’t think too much about what you’re doing, just enjoy it and relax! You performed visually but you could use stage width a little more.

Cody Urban Dance – Great image! Worked so well with stage lights. Loved the music choice and well handled with small a stage. Even when you’re stood still, stand still with a purpose, every move counts. Great shape and lines. Good energy too at the end.

Girl Power – Image worked well as it was appropriate to your age. Nice smile when you walked on. Always stand at front of the stage (move side to side but don’t stand too far back). You smiled when you caught the eye of your family and it was lovely to see, but make sure you do it more, so the audience can see you are enjoying the performance! Nervous to start, but you got into it.

Bethan Seddon – Great image for your age. Good use of stage, and nice to see the mic come off the stand and you use width of the stage. Performed to all the audience and judges which was great to see. Not so keen on song choice as it changed key a little too much.

Abbi Watkinson – Great vocal range! Your image was ok, but could be improved to be a little more stage appropriate. Well performed to the audience, but if possible (with your broken wrist) it would have been nice to see you move around the stage a little more. Brilliant delivery and performance, well done.

Dance Competition Feedback

Libby – Great use of stage area, good bouncy song choice. Nice use of lower and higher levels of stage. Great confidence, well done.

Logan Thompson – Great image, it really worked well. Eye contact could be better as you started by looking at floor. We know you’re nervous, but don’t let us see it. The song is one where you can smile as you perform, so do! If you enjoy it, we will. Use stage as you perform. We didn’t really get the bit where you turned your back on audience for a little while, so perhaps avoid that.

Erin Leah – Nice song choice and great image for your age. Nice delivery, it was great to see the mic coming off stand. You performed visually well with good control, however be careful not to sing behind the stand if the mic is in your hand, we want to see you and not the stand.

Adriana Davison – Lovely voice. Big song choice, but was you were capable to perform it well. Try and take the mic off the stand at some point, use the stage. Don’t forget to perform visually.

T’mya Fyffe – Nice song choice for your style. Lovely image that complimented your act. Would like to have seen you use the stage a little without mic stand towards end of your performance. Smile when you walk on, be happy that you’re about to perform!

Mischa – Image worked for your age, but not for this song (It was a nice flowery outfit, but the song is not ‘flowery’). Try and perform visually, not just vocally. You were capable of the vocals as you have a very big voice for your age, but we need to be entertained visually too. Don’t stay rooted to the spot.

Bubblegum – LOVED THE IMAGE! It worked so well with colours. In-sync yet different. If you’re standing on the stage and not dancing, remember to stand with purpose! Good use of lines and stage. Loved the section where everyone joined in two at a time.

Adam Cusack – Nice image for your age, song choice worked well. Nice to see you moving and performing visually, but you could have used stage width more. Be careful not to ‘over-act’ your facial expressions, keep them natural. Good confidence.

Evie – Lovely little dress. Be careful with your diction, it was difficult in some parts of song to make out the lyrics. You performed visually, so well done, but if feeling brave you could take the mic off the stand and use the stage width a little.

Princess Yasmine – Dressed worked well for your song choice of a Disney medley, loved the tiara! Smile a little more, especially when walking onto stage. Some sections of the medley were stronger than other parts, but not sure the medley allowed us to see you at your best vocally. Use the stage (if you can with that dress!).

Elliejo Stobbart – Nice image, it worked well for the routine. Good eye contact with judges and audience. Nice levels and great flips!

Astrid Smith – Image worked well, however the song was a little slow for some judges. You performed visually with body but you can use the stage a little more.

Mid-Teen Liverpool Dance Competition Feedback

Harrison Vaughan Singer – Great range and nice song choice for you. You performed visually, but use the stage width a little more. Good to see you had thought about image.

Cleo Beckett – Nice eye contact with judges and the audience, but try to perform to them rather than just look at them as you sing. Interesting image, in a good way! Nice song choice too.

Grace – Nice control. Passionate performance and great image. Good use of a small stage area.

Brodie Rodgers – We don’t recommend singing without backing music, as it is difficult to stay in time and pitch. Great image and nice vocal but music would have complimented it more. You must use music going forward!

Sophie Melville – Good movement on stage, nice to see you not rooted to the spot. Nice strong image visually but it didn’t match your song choice 100%. Good expression on your face. Song choice allowed you to show range in your voice.

Michael Aldag – Nice look, image tied in together. Nice smile, we barely wrote any feedback as we enjoyed your performance too much! Great song, well done!

Holly Marie – Nice presentation, great outfit. Passionate performance, facial expressions matched your performance. Good use of stage width.

Cat Giller – Would look to work on image, a hoodie was a little too casual for a stage performance, click here for the importance of. Good eye contact, performed well visually. Nice passionate delivery, connected with the words you were singing. Nice original song, quirky and great stage presence.

Ria McCoy – Open your eyes a little more and use facial expressions. Nice song choice and delivery.

Katie Clark – Nice smart image. Good eye contact with the audience. Good confidence, however it would have been nice to see you take mic off stand. Lovely vocal range, loved the lower tones of your voice.

Amelia – Image matched your act well. Don’t perform to the back of the room, look at your audience and perform to them, and remember to smile! Nice quirky song, however vocally you were a little flat in places but overall it was a nice delivery. Working with a vocal coach will help you to strengthen and develop your vocals further.

Libby Walker – Passionate performance, good music choice. Image could be improved, but a committed performance with beautiful lines and technique.

Elliss Halton – Great song choice for your vocal. Excellent delivery and you performed visually to audience. Be careful not to just tap your leg during the instrument bits, looked a little karaoke. Would like to see image worked on in future, think performance and not just a nice outfit. Great confidence, you had belief in your abilities which was great to see.

Lily – Great image! Even though your song is quite slow and sad, you can still smile as you come on stage! Make sure you perform to the audience and not over their heads. Your eyes barely moved from the back of the room. Nice control of your vocal.

Liverpool Dance Competition Feedback

Grace Douglas – Loved the top, but not sure jeans matched the song choice, perhaps a little bit too casual. Smile when you walk on, if you enjoy doing this then show it a bit more. Struggled vocally in certain sections with this song, it is a tricky song to sing. Working with a vocal coach will help you to strengthen and develop your vocals further. Use the stage more to perform to the audience. You looked a little bored/nervous for most of the song. Nice smile at the end!

Eloise McCarthy – Nice image, good use of stage nice levels. Good song choice for your performance.

Daisy – You used the stage well. Strong voice, good vocal control in most places. Not sure song choice allowed us to see the best of you. There were a few times when it seemed like you didn’t know where to look, try to hide those nerves!

Emily Nevitt – Smile when you walk on, if you’re happy to be performing then show us! Song choice was a little sleepy but beautiful, don’t think it showed your voice off properly though.

Amy Fullagar – You performed to the audience well and used stage width well. Good vocal control, but be careful with mic control, don’t go too far from mic. Would be interested in hearing a big show stopping song as you have the ability, this song got a little sleepy in a competition environment.

Harry – Passionate performance. You have great ability and gave a very committed performance, well done!

Abi Cryer – Original song was nice, however always ensure your guitar is in tune before performing. Even if you have to stop at beginning and tune up, it’s better than playing slightly gout of tune the whole way through. Not sure playing the guitar helped you, you may have been better with someone accompanying you or playing stood up. Nice image, however you generally looked at the back of room, next time perform to audience.

Chloe and Callum – Nice work on image, maybe try more face make up if possible to add to the torn clothes. Passionate performance, but it’s important in a duo to be 100% tight and there were some issues with timing.

Caitlin Baxter – Your image certainly stood out, but not sure it really was in sync with the song or performance. Good use of stage width, however perform a little more with your facial expressions, especially for this song. Be careful not to just keep walking back and forth on the stage, make movements count. Song suited your vocal and it was a passionate performance, especially the chorus.

Eliza Mai – Nice original take on the song. Good confident performance and great image. Seemed like you really wanted to grab the mic and perform even more, so perhaps think of playing to a backing track and keys for next time and take the mic off at some point.

Harrison Vaughan Dancer – Great energy, but be careful not to overplay facial expressions. Nice song choice, a very passionate performance.

Liverpool Dance Competition – Late-Teen Feedback

Kerri O Kane – Big song, but you performed it well. Striking image, but not sure it suited the song choice. Little bit shouty in places towards the end, but overall a great performance.

Layla Sylvia – You performed visually well, but don’t perform to the back wall too much, make sure you perform to the audience and make eye contact with them. Good energy and commitment to the performance. Great song choice for you.

Liv & Paige – Guitar was slightly out of tune unfortunately. Great to see you writing original music, there’s some good elements to the track but it needs a bit more light and shade otherwise it’s quite ‘samey’ through-out. Image tied in nicely together. Good performance but you need to work on harmonies more.

Eve O’Gara – Lovely tone to your voice and nice control. You looked great too. You moved around a little but don’t be scared to use the stage width a little more. Nice to see you using eye contact and looking to both sides of the audience and judges. Song didn’t really show off what your voice appears to be capable of though.

Jamie Boyd – Original song obviously came from real life experiences, which is great that you can express that in song. Look to work on your image, try to think stage outfit and not just something nice, click here for the importance of. Nice vocal and nice light and shade to the performance.

Amelia Wilkins – Big song but you held your own. Performed visually, but don’t stand too far back and use stage width a little more. Looked great with an original style, but don’t close your eyes too much as you need to connect with your audience through eye contact.

Emily-Anne – Looked presentable, but try to drift away from smart if your song is more pop-rock. Some pitching issues, working with a vocal coach will help you to strengthen and develop your vocals further. Don’t perform to the ceiling or back wall, if you have an audience perform to them. Passionate performance, you clearly like the song and love to sing!

Jake Oneill – Loved the performance! Nice song choice for you and great self-confidence which is nice to see when matched with ability. Nice vulnerability to your vocal. Image kind of worked for you, but could be tweaked. Performed to the audience and judges – well done. Wasn’t scared of eye contact! Looked like you belonged in front of an audience.

Cathryn Olivia – Quite a long instrumental start which perhaps isn’t the best use of your time. Nice dress and you performed visually well. Don’t think the song choice worked well for you, however you could tell that you connected to the song. Would like to have heard a different song.

Lydia – Outfit matched performance well and to paint the picture. Interesting tone to your voice, preferred the vocal when you got to the chorus. Don’t be afraid to perform to the audience, don’t close your eyes too much otherwise it feels like you’re just performing to yourself. Tell the story to us. Great song, catchy and well thought out.

Jordan Devine – Image is a little bit dated, if you’re singing Buble we probably want to see you a little smarter but still dressed for a show and not the office. At times, you looked a little bit bored, which was probably due to nerves or concentrating on what you were doing but try to disguise that! Use the stage width. Great tone to your voice, definitely suited to this type of music.

Bethany and Cameron – Try to tie your image together a little more. Liked the performance, nice to see a male/female duo. A passionate performance.

Alice Giller – Great song for you. Room to improve on image. Would have been nice to see you take the mic off the stand and use stage at some point.

Vanessa – Performed to the audience well, you’re very confident. Don’t think the song showed off your potential though. Really wanted to hear you unleash the voice more. Use the stage width a little more. A passionate and committed performance

London Talent Show: See industry feedback below. Please be aware views expressed by judges are opinions and subjective to that particular judging panel. These views in no way reflect the views of the TeenStar competition, and are published with a view to being beneficial to the performing acts.

Check out more feedback from the Camden Singing Contest and the Camden Music Competition here.

Maya Lane – Lovely tone and comfortable guitar backing. Have confidence in your own song as it was good and didn’t need to do a cover. Lovely calm presence. Keep developing your songwriting skills, there’s lots of promise here. Look like a popstar!

Coco – It’s a very iconic song and from an iconic singer which although you did a good job does mean you are going to always be second best to the original. Your microphone control needs developing. Powerful voice!

London Talent Show – Regional Final Feedback

Maya Townley – Well done on altering your mic stand when a little high. Vocally though need to work on your projection, control and range which can easily develop with a vocal coach and performing as much as you can. Try not to let the nerves show in your performance.

Fizza Iqbal – It’s a very iconic song and from an iconic singer which although you did a good job does mean you are going to always be second best to the original. Would like to see something more relevant! Watch your mic control as you are losing a lot of projection and making the volume inconsistent.

Macie-Rose – Vocally you are strong but remember to use the stage. It’s a fun song and you need to express that. Your song choice suited your vocal nicely.

Aya – Brave to perform acappella. Always a huge risk singing acapella. Having said that you have a good vocal it’s just hard to keep the timing perfect and not to rush the performance which of course affects the breathing when you don’t have a backing track.

Freddie Hunter – Brave song choice but naturally singing a female vocal will alter enough to be different. Look to develop your projection and range by performing more and working with a vocal coach. Good sensitive expression in the face which conveyed the emotion well. You look great and you’ve got lots of potential.

London Talent Show – TeenStar 2015

Scarlett – It’s a very popular song and as a result we’re hearing this song more than once today so going forward try and select a song less popular that you can make more of an impression. Vocally you have a nice tone just remember to not force it and lose the control. Sassy Scarlett! First singer to make eye contact with the audience.

Jess Powell – Ideally you want to pick songs that demonstrate the nicer tones in your vocal range, not convinced that this song did. Slightly too high for you in places. Lovely performance. Next time pick happier songs, they suit your vocal better!

Breeze – Good projection and commitment to the vocal. Glad you took the mic off the stand to move and work the stage however take care with your timing it’s a song that is very unforgiving for that. You have great style and stand out from the crowd. Future artist! Could tell how much thought and passion you put into your performance.

Alana Keeley – Commit more to the performance it needed more performance and emotion. There’s buckets of potential here that you need to keep developing and working on!

London Talent Show – Feedback for Pre-Teens

Jessie – It’s a shame you picked this song as had a couple of acts do the same song but it is important that you pick songs that can show you off individually and impress as much as you can. Having said that it was a strong and committed performance. Great range and image! Would love to hear you sing upbeat fun songs! Great microphone technique.

Emily Jones – Cool song choice, very contemporary. Make sure you use that stage more. Lovely falsetto. Very sweet and relaxed performance. Fun, young and upbeat!

Elijah – Got to be millions of songs to choose from just pick songs that aren’t so iconic and popular, you need to stand out. Use that stage to really help us connect with you. Ensure you don’t force the vocal and lose control. Great diction. Amazing range. Brave song choice and you pulled it off.

Asha Banks – Brave start with the acappella beginning, make sure you bring more emotion to the performance which you can do with your facial expression. Really enjoyed your vibe on stage. Good confidence.

Jasmine – A strong commitment from the off to make a strong impression. You worked that stage well using it to connect well to the audience. Remember your vocal whilst moving around. Good confidence. Would like to see you bring this energy to a more contemporary song.

Danella Sloman – You have a lovely tone and expression to the emotion but commit even more to the performance it felt like you were holding back but the song has so much emotion you need to connect with that and convey it more. Great interpretation of the song, you looked great!
